How to have a smoother ride?
Hello guys, this subforum is kind of slow so let me just start up a topic real quick to get things moving.
I have Function and Form Type 1s on my EG and they are Front 10k/ Rear 6k.
I plan on to auto-x next season but for right now its my daily and I drive through the shittiest roads ever.
Is there anything I can do to improve my ride quality? I'm not really low, matter fact I'm as high as possible on the coilovers in the rear and the fronts have a 1.5inch gap between the fender. I don't mind being stiff per say, but I wish it wouldnt make so much noise when I hit bumps.
Its pretty normal noise, my coilovers are basically new and its nothing to look at but when I go over some bumps it sounds so loud. Maybe its my interior or something. I've lowered the PSI from 40 to 26 and I feel like its better but am not so sure.
What should I be looking to do here?

Thanks guys.

26 is too low for the street, in the winter it's probably going to creep lower. 35/33 is a tried and true pressure setting. anyway, as for your ride, you have shitty coilovers, they are what they are. the rates also will probably **** you off if you autocross. the front is going to push with those rates. i have no idea if you can get support of different rates for those but when you do hit the track, especially if it;'s slow speed autocross you'll probably like the 6k in the front and 10k in the back more. if you really want the best of both worlds buy track suspension, a set of koni str.t's and tein h techs. run the koni/tein combo in the winter and bolt on track coilovers in the summer. get firestones lifetime alignment and you're set.
Alright I'll bump the psi back up. The coilovers I dont mind, I think they ride okay. I just wish it wasnt so loud when I went over stuff. Its probably the 15+year old bushings :-/
Thanks for the input.

I agree with you, i think its the bushings.
We changed my friends in his 95 coupe, and it is a lot better now. He has is F&F Type 2's, and he used Pic bushings. He is pretty low though, and runing 205-50-15, azenis.

diagnose the quality of your steering and suspension balljoints/bushings.
look for play. replace anything that looks bad.
"ride quality" isnt just shocks and springs.

How can I tell the condition of the balljoints?
Appreciate it dudes!
Yes, we did our selfs. We used the full pic hard rubber bushing kit

Not the exact kit we used, but this will give you a idea.

Yeah Ive talked to a few guys that work for a racing team and they all recommended I use a harder rubber than stock. Mugens for example. That right there would do the trick. Polyurethane are noisy and too stiff for the street anyways. Would def like to do those next year.
depends on the climate. i've had ES bushings for 3yrs, never lubed once and have done about 45k miles on them. no squeeks or issues. oddly salted roads and harsh winters seem to kill them faster. anyway i'm with the others on bushings and ball joints.
it's really all climate. the complaints seem to come from the mid west and northern states. on the west coast they live forever, i have no idea why this is. i actually just inspected mine the other day and they look nearly new. 3yrs and 45k miles later.
Yeah but even if they last. They take out slack in the the suspension and tighten everything up. The good part about that is because it makes the car more precise, firmer and more predictable. However stock rubber bushings are made for there to be some flex. Once you start to tighten up your suspension with poly bushings and stiff spring rates the chassis is going to be absorbing more of these forces so the ride quality goes down. Just something to keep in mind if you want to have a good ride.
I don't mind loosing ride quality lol
My car already rides like a truck
But on the subject the of ride quality, my friends car was stiffend up quite a bit, but still rides great. I know that's subjective, but its his dd and he doesn't mind. His dad is also looking at the same set for his dd 98 ex.

Stiffer bushings would be counter productive to a smoother ride.
And poly is not a good choice for honda suspension. Get rubber oem ones and install suspension correctly so you don't over stress them and rip em.

When I lowered my '92 Si I bought all new OEM bushings, so I don't know if the noise I hear is the same as yours. I'm on Omni 1st gen coilovers with a springs rate of 8k front and 6k rear, I believe. The noise is mostly from the hatch, dash and roof liner rattling. The suspension sounds solid.
On my daily driver '97 CL, I have F&F Type 2's and the suspension makes some weird noises. I'd imagine it's due to the bushings since they're several years old and my Civic doesn't make these same sounds.

Thanks for the input. The noises I hear are from the tires hitting the bump and also when the back goes over a bump I hear the same noises and the hatch area too. That's not too bad, it's the tire noise I care about.
also have had good luck with proteco wrap. i was installing a window in my house over the summer and it's that SUPER sticky tar based plastic wrap you use around exterior door and window frames. anyway, it dampens rattles and it fairly cheap. a whole roll is $15 at home depot. weighs less than dynamat and is easy to get your hands on and sticks to everything. as i was sticking it to the 2x4 frame for the window it dawned on me to try in my hatch. worked excellent
