Default My B20VTEC, revised

I built a B20VTEC about a year and a half ago. I tuned it and did ok.

212hp 145tq

Then I had the guys at IMW tune it and did awesome.

230hp 160tq

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qqvufC-6Ec

Added a 3" exhaust with no tuning

238hp 156tq

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFpCpJZs6Vs

After that I decided to play around with a Holset VGT set-up. It worked good and I really liked the response of the turbo. Never got to dyno the set-up but it ran well with E85 and a Victor X.

I just sold my CRX and have acquired this:

Most of the above is irrelevant to the AM forum, but I wanted to give some kind of introduction to this... uhhh... test.

The motor is a basic B20VTEC.
On the dyno videos it had 42mm GSXR itb's that I made myself, RS ITR pistons, S2S2 cams and a RMF drag header.
The purpose of this thread is to more or less document the changes that will be made on the motor in the next few months and log me some dyno time for the EFI 101 cert.
Once the motor is on the car I plan on leaving the Victor X and fab a good intake for it. Test a RMF narrow header and a header that looks like a SMSP copy. Also test a set of 48mm Jenvey ITB's against the 42mm Homemade units.
Put in a set of Pro2 cams and see how they respond with the above bolt-on's.

Here is a pic of the Homemade ITB's vs the Jenvey units.

I am also willing to test anything and everything I get my hands into. I am sure in the near future I will be hunting down more headers, cams and intake manifolds to test. Maybe even do a custom header with the help of Mar778c.
I am swapping the motor out this weekend. I got all the stuff mentioned above. Now is just a matter of getting it done. Hopefully rent some dyno time in a week or two and get started on the testing.
Yes, this is how I spend my winters.

I'm putting this motor on the 4DR over the weekend. Still trying to decide what header and intake combination to start with. Either the ported Victor X or the Jenvey ITB's... and finally finish the write up for the S2000 cluster. Wish me luck!

The motor is in. Went with the Victor X and ProFab header. Now I'm trying to get some dyno time and upgrade my Crome.

I will keep you posted on the dyno results. Hopefully I will get it done within the next couple of weeks. I might end up slapping the Jenvey ITB's for the fun of it...

I finally got my fuel line fittings for the ITB's. I might have enough drive to put them in over the weekend... hell I might end up throwing the cams in too. Whats the quick Pro2 settings for RS pistons with nothing machined?

Here is a video of the car showing the S2K cluster working... someone thought it was turbo LoL...

Thanks for the comments.
I am in the process of adapting my ID1000's into the Jenvey fuel rail. It's coming along well. I should have the ITB's done tomorrow.

Here are some pics of how they look:

Someone has to have a dyno that I can rent over the winter right? I need to get this thing dialed in and check what kind of power is making.

Well, I sold my Tuner 2 cams and had to put the pro 2's in. However, before putting the pro2's in place I decided to do a cylinder leak down test. The engine was cold during the test, but i was starting to notice a misfire in the early AM during warm up. Here are the results:

Cylinder 4: 5%

Cylinder 3: 70%

Cylinder 2: 50%

Cylinder 1: 90% Ouch...

Most of the air is coming from the intake valves on the bad cylinders. I'm thinking I will be giving RLZ a call soon. The car still runs strong once it warms up. The compression test was bad also. With cylinder 1 being at 190psi and 4 being at 270psi. I will keep you posted if I decide to dyno the way it is and see how it runs with almost 2 cylinders lol.
On a good note, I was able to get my requested plates...

Check later for updates.

I went from tuner2's to pro2s... now i'm on my custom cams..

the switch from tuner2's to pro2's was probably the BEST decision i ever made.

I tore apart the engine today. I'm glad I found the problem. It was a bad intake valve.

Here are a few pictures of the teardown:

You can see the black on #1 cylinder

#1 piston looks good.

Then I found the problem upon closer inspection...

The #1 intake valves are shot. I have no idea why or how this happened. You can see the damage of the valve in these pictures...

Here is the seat. I'm really hoping that it is still usable...

Here is the #4 intake valve...

That about sums it up. I'm sending the head out to RLZ in North Carolina. Maybe I should consult with them and find out if this head is still in good shape to port. I'm also going with 14.0:1 pistons and E85. I will let you guys know how I make out with it.
