Default Tires--touring vs performance

so i need to buy tires for my car
03 base rsx

i'm considering touring because i'm a college student and would like these tires to last, and for the same price as a performance i can find some tourings that last twice as long...what're some of the downfalls that you guys have seen using touring tires?

Obviously they won't as nice as performance and won't have the handling edge-anything else?

ok so you have no snow to worry bout, I'm a yokohama guy, so for you I"d take a look at the Avid Envigor which comes in a H and V speed ratings. its a all season tire with enough perfomance features to keep you on point. I had the older version of this tire the w4s's on my dd spec v and they lasted about 30,000 and I drive like an ahole usually. For the price its honestly one of the best tires.

I haven't seen that tire at discount tire, there's an avid touring, but it has a warranty of 65k, do you think performance tires warrant the price, especially for a student? this car is my dd.

A performance tire can def be worth the money if you're the kind of driver to put them to use, and for you living in fla, getting the right tire to deal with the dry/rain situations without losing your confidence in grip. for my DD I prefer ultra high performance or high performance all season. look on tire rack also cause their prices compare well with discount tire.

Are you running stock height? Do you have any camber?

Having touring tires does have its downfalls, they are good tires but they are made for people who aren't looking for much performance but something that last long. Al thought, there are tires that are performance tires that can easily last 35-40k such as my favorite Kumho Ecsta SPT and the Yokohama S.Drive. Also Kumho makes a very good all season performance tire which is the Kumho ASX if you really want to go that route!

I have the Continental Extreme Contact DW (Max. Perf. Summer). For you I would recommend the Continental Extreme Contact DWS, which are Ultra High Performance All-Seasons with 540 Treadwear. Both versions have a quiet comfortable ride, handle superbly in wet/dry conditions however they don't really handle turns as well as a high performance tire should in their respective categories. This is due to their sidewalls being a bit soft. Just run them with about 38 psi.

Other tires I would consider are Falken Ziex ZE-912 or Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport

Based on what you've written -- i.e., your original question, your responses, dd, etc. -- Yokohama's AVID V4s 205/55 would be an excellent tire for your intended use. It is exactly as advertised. You can read dozens of evaluations of the tire and check current prices on TireRack's webpage.
