93 EG6 SiR Gbox Whining When down shifting
Just finished putting a new motor in and using the same gbox, didnt hear this noise before, iv had the flywheel skimmed and used same clutch and thrust bearing (both fine before engine swap) The only difference is im using castrol 10-30w oil in it rather than honda MTF, though would that be enough to cause the noise? When downshifting into first it makes a loudish whining/screetching noise, I think it slightly does it downshifting from 3rd to 2nd.

well you should get that motor oil out of there ASAP....that is supposed to be a last resort.
do you downshift when you slow down for a stop light?
do you downshift when you slow down for a stop light?
Its in there just to get the car going cause its what was there when we first started it, umm say like a give way intersection, 3rd to 2nd, 2nd to firrst *krrrr* A mate reckons could be the clutch plate got worn after the first thrash :S but it was fine before engine swap
downshifting is a good way to save brakes. ever notice truck drivers?
i would think that the whininng would be a mainshaft bearing showing its age.
