Default crx catalyic converter spring?

Hi, I ran into a problem with my catalytic converter. I can't get the bolt through the exhaust spring.=[
Do I need this spring, or can I just use a regular bolt.
Thanks for any advice

ya it needs the spring to flex. if its solid then stuff will start to crack.
