Best coilover for dual-purpose EG6?
Hi, I am building an EG6 as an overall fun car. I intend on using it for touge (street mountain passes, where hidden bumps and deteriorated tarmac are facts of life), regularity rallies and the occasional track-day (race circuit, not auto-x). I am focusing on overall balance, high quality and durability on this build.
I'd like something that will perform on the street, where you need compliance to handle the bumps, and on the track where you need the direct response that a stiffer suspension provides... Perhaps impossible I know... If a compromise must be made, I'd give more importance to street performance, as I shouldn't visit the track more than 4-5 times a year.
I am budgeting around $3000 for this. I have looked at several possibilities but none seems to be perfect:
- Spoon N1: read good reviews but the race-hard 18/16K spring rates are scary for a street car.
- Ohlins PCV: these are high quality for sure. 10/5K F/R... Just from the spring rates, it looks like it would understeer too much and need staggered tires and a huge sway bar to balance it... Makes me hesitate...
- KW V3: the reviews are good and they seem to ride really well. However, the springs are progressive and I had a bad experience with Eibach Pro-kit progressive springs. Their response was inconsistent and clearly underdamped on small undulations. The spring rates are 6.7/2.7K. The rear rates seems scary soft, maybe it's just because they're progressive?
Any suggestions or inputs to help me choose a setup? Thanks!
ps: I run Koni/GC on my daily and would like something better for my "special" car.

AMR or entry level moton.
you could get the koni race shocks for 1000 if you want to use higher rates on ground controls.
one of those 3 should fit the bill

Thanks! I couldn't find non-race Moton shocks for the EG6/DC2 chassis.
I'll read up on AMR as I'm not too familiar with them.
I realized I can always change the springs on the Ohlins so that's looking like a "tasty" option at the moment.
Any further feedback appreciated.
edit: AMR seems to be the new kid on the block. I'm not going to risk it, I want something from a well-known brand that has a successful history and great R&D. Also, I need to be able to rebuild them as I'll be keeping this car for life. I have Koni, Bilstein, KW and Ohlins specialists close to my house but probably wouldn't find an AMR specialist in the whole of Europe?

oh, just noticed, you're next door to spain. agree with sticking with the brands you named just for support. koni / ohlins would probably be how i would lean. koni is just such a great bang for your buck. there are no AMR dealers in europe as far as i know, great support in my area but i wouldn't touch them if i was in europe either

and bilstein is the cheap one to revalve if you need anything changed for different rates. you're kind of in a no loose situation with your budget. all are quality.
