Removing the axel, I'm stuck on the ball joint
I'm trying to get the axels out, here is what I'm stuck on:
With the nut removed, break apart the ball joint. To do this, hammer on the nubs on on the side of the jointl.
What does this mean, I took the castle nut off, does the hole threaded thing slide up through? What am I trying to do?

yes hammer hard on them:
NEVER EVER HIT THE NUB WITH THE NUT OFF!IF YOU SLIP AND HIT THE THREADS ON THE BALL JOINT YOUR FUCKED!
just put the nut back on 1/2 of the way then hit the nub.

That's the hard way to take off the axles.
I got mine out in no time without even bothering about the balljoints.
Put the caslte nut back on.
You will take off these nuts instead.
1st unbolt the sway bar from the lower control arm, it has a bushing on it.
2nd unbolt the lower shock fork nut, and pull out the bolt (this one is usually on tight)
3rd unbolt the lower control arm joint (follow the LCA to the chassis, it's one bolt with a big bushing around it)
Now pull the LCA (lower control arm) down a little bit so you can fit a socket wrench on the two 14mm bolts that hold the radious rod to the LCA. One that is off you should be able to move the LCA around a bit, it should only be connected to the hub assembly now. Now (with a hammer) pound the axle out of the hub (where the 32mm axle nut used to be) while giving it room by swinging the entire hub assembly towards the rear of the car.
Then just pop it out of the tranny (pry it out, don't try and pull it out).
Make sense?

I'm telling you guys, I just barely did it this way. No special tools needed, your balljoints aren't even touched.
I've never taken out axles before just two days ago - and I did it this way.
If it doesn't make sense what I said, e-mail me or something, I'll give you pics and more detailed instructions on how to do it!
Now I can take axles out of a CRX or 4g Hatch in about 30 minutes - no broken knuckles, no frusteration.

i took mine out last week in 20 minutes, by undoing the hub nut taking off the caliper & rotor unbolting the upper control arm, pushing down on the upper control arm while my brother slid the bearings out of the half axel (undid the cv boot) and used a flathead screwdriver to lightly pry the half axel out of the tranny. only problem I ran into was getting the hub nut off ( i ended up using a 2 ft breaker bar with a 4 foot lead pipe around it to get enough leverage to crack it, while my brother pushed the breaks down.) had it back together in under a half hr.

dood dont spend ****!
jack up the rotor. put the end of your ratchet in between the LCA and balljoint
lower the jack. itll pop right out!
if it doesnt pop jack the rotor up higher and get a bigger piece of metal to put in it
best way without ruining the boot.!!!

Get a ball joint separator.
HOWEVER, don't use it directly on the ball joint. Put it right behind the ball joint between the metal on the knucle and the lca. Pound it in from the side. Then hammer DOWN against the ball joint remover. This will usually pop them in 1 try.
If it still does not want to go, get a jack and jack up the rotor until the LCA and knuckle surfaces are parallel (ball joint itself is perfectly straight). Then do the above. This always works.

If all else fails...try heat! I had to torch me axle nuts to get them off. Nothing was going to get those bad boys off that axle...
sometimes you get lucky and hit the axle with a hammer and it falls right out. mine did.
But the balljoint tool, isnt just ONE tool, Devin17 knows its a ALLpurpose tool.

You don't need to bust the ball joints to take out the axles... I can't remember exactly how we did it, we just unbolted stuff, but if you bust the balljoints won't you need an alignment??
This following way is the far easiest is if you don't have specialty tools, it took me about 10 minutes an axel with this way.
