01 civic trans problem help!

my 01 civic would pop out of 2nd gear on a turn, and once in a while when i shift to second and let go of the clutch pedal, it'd make a grinding noise. what could it be?

Synchros? I'm not a trans guy but I have heard that this might be the cause.

This is the most likely scenario, but check to make sure everything else (axles, shift linkage, shifter bushings, etc.) is good just in case.
