5thGen Sh or Non??? HELP PLEASE!!
What up? Im bout to get a prelude maybe within the week...I have heard that you can not lower the SH's because of the ATTS...i heard its hella hard to lower and it costs hella to lower it??? true or not?? I also heard that theres hella problems with the sh to the non sh...can anyone tell me their opinion on sh or non?? and tell me why...?? Thanks..peace
Don't get an SH. I rather have a NON SH 5 speed because it is way faster then the type SH. ATTS helps you in turns but if you spend 2000 bucks on extra suspension instead of getting the type SH. you will turn better then a type SH so it really isn't worth paying the extra money for a slower car. Most people get ATTS confused with a Limited Slip Differential (LSD). ATTS helps in turns by turning one wheel faster then the other, but it is nothing like an LSD at all. Plus Type SH's are harder to tune, tranny is more expensive to fix. If you are gonna leave everything stock get the SH, but if you are gonna tune it.. get the base. I got a 5 speed base and i love it, i can take a coner way better then my friends type SH just because i got better suspension.
Alot of smack talking here...
First of all, who said the base is "alot" faster then an SH? I've never seen any absolute data, proving that the Base is totally superior to the SH in acceleration numbers. In fact, they seem to be dead on, and they are usually seperated by the drivers' *not the car*
You also lost alot of the smaller stuff too by going w/ a Base; no SH wheels, upgraded steering knuckles that keep the suspensionn working better, and I think a slightly diffrent swaybar & spring setup, compared to the Base. Its not only the ATTS that makes the SH handle better...Leather shift-****, leather wheel...SH-rear qtr deck...etc, etc.
i can take a coner way better then my friends type SH just because i got better suspension.
That's abit of an unfair comparison. If you add similar mods to both cars, I wonder how the SH will handle afterwards? If you're going to compare things, compare apples to apples. Not apples to grapefruits....Not to mention your argument, at most, are just assumptions.
Edit: Oh, and the SH just outright looks better w/ its painted under-trim...

Hahaha pwned! Well put PilotSi. Like Pilot said, the Type SH is superior in almost every way. Yes, it's about 90 pounds heavier than the base, but come on, that's like one tenth of a second in the quarter mile. That could easily be made up with good driving skills. The SH also does what a Prelude is supposed to do, and that's handle great. If you're looking for a drag car, I'm sorry, you have the wrong car. The Prelude isn't exactly your best choice as a drag car -- base nor SH. But yeah, this topic has been started up over and over again. But that's my $.02 anyway.
I have Type SH with a suspension upgrade. ATTS works great. Most people said that Type SH isn't worth to get but try one, beat on it, push the car to the limit, then you'll know why I love the ATTS. If you can have the money to buy Type SH, no doubt Type SH is the best choice but base model is also great.
Dead on man, the only circumstance where I wouldn't reccomend the SH is if you are planning to go high boost, like 1fst5gen. But even if you are planning on a JRSC, I heard some SH owners run those reliably. So yeah, SH all the way!

well some one tell me this.... if you got mods and the OBDII will "eventually" detune the mods...... Then the person will want to either Loop the ecu to not retain the memory.. or either to change the ECU..
But if you change the ECU wouldnt that disable the ATTS since its controlled by the ECU??
Just a question out there.
I got base model for those reasons.. Plus I didnt want to worry about ATTS and reliability issues(if there is any) Since I know/heard the Tranny and ATTS components will cost more than the base?
Plus base is cheaper heh

This is probably the easiest and cheapest way to get around the detuning problem http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-afc/ecu.shtml
I don't ******* understand why people say the SH is slower!!! Its only 80 pounds!!!! The only thing i heard the SH is bad for is turbo.

stick a fat *** in a base and a ballet dancer in a SH and its the same thing
Right on James.
I'm so sick of this argument everywhere!
*As a note, non SH owners should keep their mouths shut due to the fact that they don't know what they're missing.*
Here's my 2 cents.
IF you're going full out with the force induction, by all means, get the base. You will have less problems down the line and wouldn't have to deal with the dead weight that won't be used. However, if there are no plans in the future for full blown acceleration and the car is to be enjoyed making canyon runs, autox, and the occasional track day, get the SH. You won't be sorry.

First off the weight difference is only 80lbs and there is a 3-5hp loss through the drivetrain of the SH over the base. Typically a base will dyno 160whp and SH 155-157whp. In a race unless the drivers are perfeclty equal it won't matter. To the person that said the base is a girl car, your an idiot. Just drive both the base and SH and see which one you like better.

you can turbo the SH, but you risk loosing ATTS, which is the whole point of the SH innthe first place. Also, by switching ECUs, or getting standalone engine management, you loose ATTS as well.
