What size tires and wheels(it makes a difference). But no matter what, that RPM is to high if your tach is accurate. It should be around 3000 RPMs plus or minus 500 at that speed.

your final drive has been swapped, you have some whacked hybrid tranny, or your tach signal is just screwed/or cluster swapped improperly, and theres nothing actually wrong...

What is your RPM in 4th gear. Is it possible you're in 3rd instead of 5th, maybe something wrong with your shift forks?

i know its not my gauges...
for some reason, all my gears are shorter. im going to have to get ahold of the previous owner of it, and see if he did something to it... is there an easy way of swaping 5th gear drive?
i wanna go on a road trip soon, but not like this. lol.

If your clutch was worn out it might slip and the motor would turn over faster than the wheels, but when you let off the gas the tach would drop back to where it should be (~3000 in this case). Plus you'd definitely notice the smell/loss of power if the clutch was that bad.

If all of your gears are shorter than they should be, you probably have a swapped final drive.

AND when i let off the gas, she stays at 4000. =/
i guess its time for a tranny swap!!
ill save the old one just because its AMAZING if i was to race someone, because the gears are soo short. lol.

would it be cheaper to re-swap final drives with a dx tranny??
how hard is that to do?

Based on the sound, does it sound like you are turning 4k/5k rpm at that speed?

If it is a super short tranny, then yes, you will be noticeably slower with the correctly geared tran.... I wonder if you could just have a shop swap out the 5th gear...

Who told you that?

Have you checked the stamping near where the passenger side axle is? I have an SI transmission and I think I'm around 80mph at 4000rpm. I'll double check on the way home
