Default 2000 Accord V6 Transmission Failure

So Sunday my 4AT Tranny completely failed. It was extremely random. It had been slipping once in a while the day before. But the day of it began to slip every time i pressed the pedal enough for it to downshift, the RPM's would go through the roof. I know the previous owner had the transmission rebuilt.

The tranny was working pretty well. I had just gotten off the interstate. I had been on it for about 30 mins. ~100mph. At the second stop light off the interstate the car got up to 45mph and the D4 light began to flash and the tranny wouldnt get into any gear. After I coasted to a parking lot. I turned the car off and back on and it moved about 5ft and stopped again. Then I turned it off and back on and put it in reverse to get it back in the spot and it kicked back randomly. Then it completely quit. Its parked now at my favored shop.

Any Ideas on what is broken? And any ideas on what i should replace it with? I want to keep an automatic in my car cause im not really a fan of manual shifting. Ive been searching with no results. But would it be easy/effective/smart to replace mine with a 5spd Auto from an Acura?

Thanks

I'll even be a touch helpful - your automatic transmission sucks and are prone to failure. You beating the **** out of it certainly did not help the situation. Take a whopping 10 seconds and do a search in the Accord section for transmission failures in V6 98-02 Accords.

You have killed your transmission, you need to replace it.

Yet no formal recall occurred. In Canada, recall letters were sent out to owners who fell within a certain VIN range, this warranty was later re-extended for some owners to 7 years 11 months in length.
'98-'02 ATs are known to be problematic. I suggest not beating on it.

Hi, I just joined and cannot start a thread yet so I will post on this one.

I have a 1998 Accord V6, the transmission seems to be running rough. It shifts hard, especially in reverse (like when pulling out of park). I was told the fluid was changed before I got it a few years ago. When I check the fluid it is very dark, like oil. I have heard that changing the fluid when its already running bad could kill it? Any recommendations? Should I just do a tranny flush or put some additive in it? I was also told that in older models the cylinders (?) can be cleaned to make it run better, but this person wasn't sure about the new motors (he had an 88).

Thank for any help!

I have a 2001 v6 Accord, and the transmission has been slipping. Last week the TCS, check engine light, came on and the D4 light was blinking. After restarting the car, only the check engine light came on. I have 124 k miles on this car, original owner. I know that there was a manufacturer issue with the transmission, but my understanding is that any warranty extensions are no longer available. My Honda dealer wanted $3900 to rebuild the transmission, AAMCO quoted me $1800 -- $2800. I'm considering just selling it, but at this point, I'm thinking I may get very little for it.

If I get the transmission rebuilt, what are the chances that it will just fail again? Honda will give me a 3 year warranty on their rebuild, AAMCO is 1 year.
