wow! I got a text about this when it happened. Not what I expected the crash to look like at all. It looks like it was either a downforce issue or the parachute + side wind caused it to get crazy. From the looks of th pic the tag line for the chute is REAL low.

really low, almost like its hooked up a tow hook under the chassis or something.

The crash would not have happened if the chute tug point was in the correct place. It looks like it is way to low and when he pulled the chute it lifted the rear tires off the ground and with the cross wnd it made the car drift over and the driver had to correct thus driving it off the track.

You can hear him drive through the chute, then it pulls the rear tires off the ground.

Damn thank god for all the safety equipment. I was going to say it does look like he drives through the chute but who knows since the video is about 3/4 mile away from the crash and it takes the sound a bit to get to the camera. Either way it def looks like the attach point for the chute is under the chassis

It looks more like driver error, he hit the breaks before the parachute fully deployed. At that mph you have to stay on the gas until the chute slow the car then apply breaks, glad he walked away!

i couldn't tell if that was backgrounf noise or the Gallardo. Looks like he was on the brakes a bit too.

While we are at it. Since i have never had a car making the power to trap 150+mph to need/use a chute..

What is the proper way to open a chute?

I hear you have to gas through the initial opening of the cute , then let the chute do some of the work b4 getting on the breaks.. I also heard never to get on the breaks b4 the chute fully opening either way.

anyone?

Shouldn't have pulled the chute miller stops at 180+ without the chute in a Honda lol. Doesn't the lamb have ceramic f1 brakes?

Let the chute do the work then breaks, otherwise end up like this guy but the guard rail or on your back, very dangerous situation!

We actually cover the proper place to attach the chute and it is rt in-line with the top of the tires not under the car.

Here is a link to an example of the tug point being mounted a few inches to low on Rado's old drag car. Watch the in car footage. Imagine how bad it was on the Lambo that crashed being all the way under the car.

I guess he got a 100k lesson.......

True, but if you watch the video, pause it once he applies the breaks and you will see the chute is still deploying. He was also off the gas, he would have been better off stopping it without the chute. I have seen greats like prostock legend Bob Glidden make the same mistake and it too cost him 100k!

Here's what happen to Gary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89PsNPHUjIs

at the 47 sec mark. you can see the chute justtt being deployed and soon after he's on the breaks.

Yea it cost those dragsters 100k to make that mistake but it cost this man well over 380k. The boost kit alone is $110k. Thank God he walked away.

The tug point was not correct. That's ultimately what caused this. The crosswinds and release didn't help but in the end if the tug point was correct he wouldve been ok.

Sure are a lot of critics here. How many of you guys have driven a car to 250mph and had to shut down in 1 mile or so?
