I was just thinking of posting about this the other day because I want to know how to do it. Are you using a relay from a car that has DRLs? Is it dimming what was the high beam bulb? Are you using the outter bulb that has a dual filament for both high and low?

im using a relay i got from autozone, and no its not dimming the inner H1 bulbs or highbeams, i no longer have the outer H4 dual filament bulb because i retrofitted TSX projectors in there place. but thats how they do it in the land of japan, the H4's act as the low and high beams while the H1 acts as the daytime running lights.

basically i made my own wiring harness for the H1 bulbs and ran them with a relay to a switch, so i can turn them on and off without the parking lights or headlights being on, much like an aftermarket foglight wiring kit. for the switch i used a JDM prelude foglight switch for an oem look

i use 3 foglight switches lol, one for the front foglights, one for the rear foglight and one for the daytime running lights

So my take on this is you have no high beams? My lights have those H1 bulbs wired in just like the USDM high beams, and as such, those lights work with the high beam toggle on the stalk. I guess the only difference is that you don't have to have your lights turned on for them to work.

lol thats a good question, i havent put much thought in to it really. well ive seen the retrofitted headlights other people make normally go between $600 and $800 depending if you need new headlights and what projectors you use. my headlights are stanley ones too not the ebay replicas. ive also seen the azect eyelides go for $250-$350 on ebay before, and as far as i know theres only a handful of people that have the real azects including big mike. so you do the math haha

Since you asked for opinions:

1. It seems well done, but....
2. Why would you need headlights during the day?

I agree with Kronn. Why would you need light during the day?

Any vehicles with drl's from the factory are done for the safety aspect, that having lights on make a vehicle more visible. In the U.S. these are not required, but many other countries require all new vehicles sold to be equipped with DRL's.

The largest difference is that the factory DRL is not controlled by a switch, it cannot be turned off by the driver on a whim. Most vehicles can have the DRL disabled by pulling a relay or fuse. The drl relay in a factory equipped car also only gives approx 70-80 % of full power to the lights, so there isa difference between the drl light and having the light turned on by the headlight controls, also the rear lights are generally not enabled with the drl's.

Just another side point, many car's with drl's will cause a non-factory hid system to burn out very quickly, since the 80% of full power cannot supply the ignitor properly.

What I want to do is make my JDM 1 piece lights work as they were intended, get a dimming relay and use the dual filament outer bulb for both high and low beam. Pretty much working like said above, coming on with the car dimmed to 70% output and turn off whenever the parking, low or high beams are on. I searched around because I heard of people using the relay from an Insight to do this but didn't find much, anyone know of a writeup for it?

You may be able to get a relay for a Canadian prelude, and just wire the high power to the high filament, and drl power to the H1 bulb. Not sure if it could work this way, but it's a thought.

The Canadian 4th gen did have drls.

Well it's easy to get the H4 bulb to control both high and low but it's the relay choice and wiring I don't have a clue about. Gonna search the net though for a canadian DRL relay.

Because in the US, we know that's a bunch of BS. If it's sunny outside, DRLs don't make you any more visible. If it's not sunny outside, ok, maybe. But that's why regular headlights, parking lights, and/or fog lights were created and put on the car.

Good enough for me. As long as you understand it's just a cosmetic mod, do what you want to your car.

Yes you are correct! My bad $350.

lol but i know how you feel totally. After you do your own really hard tedious work, you feel its worth more. And it should be. Like my polished oem wheels. I wont take less then 400 for them. But noone will buy em for that. lol sweet setup tho!

My opinion: DRL is stupid. What's the point? To burn fuel? Make driving more annoying by having to stare at everyone's headlights? Why don't we all hook up flashing lights and make it that much more annoying? It used to be that only motorcyclists would turn on their headlights during the day, but now we all have SUV's that you can't turn the lights off if you wanted to. Was that just to one-up the motorcycles or what? I like the headlights to come on when I flip the switch, which I do when it's dark out and I need to see where I'm going. If you think you need to run your lights for safety, then buy a big ford excretion, paint it fluorescent orange, install a roll cage, and wear a helmet. /rant
