mkIII supra questions
so im in the search for a mkIII supra but it has to be in the range of a 89-92.
and i was thinking about importing one from japan. RHD and it would come STOCK with a twin turbo 1jze.
so my question is what do i have to do to make it legal in the USA. I heard its as simple as replacing all the glass to tempered glass cause they dont use tempered glass in japan, and then just slapping a cat on the exhaust, fact or fiction on that?
and wheres a good site that imports cars?

Why not just get one that was built for the US market?
Pretty sure for the money you would pay importing one and getting it legal, you could just spend the money on the motor and have more power.

Dont be that guy. Oh I need JDM RHD, then everyone will want to cup my *****. If you want a 1jz that bad, swap one. Its not that hard to find a supra with a blown motor.
because if it is as easy as changing the glass to tempered, and throwing a cat on the exhaust, then hell ya im doing it.
reason being cause i planned on purchasing a supra from 89-92 from here or the us market to be clear. and then purchase a JDM front clip cause it would contain just about EVERYTHING i would need for the swap, to have the twin turbo 1jze.
but for a little bit more, i can have a RHD one, and one that was not swaped, and is STOCK, which is what I am looking for. im not getting the RHD to be that person, but because iv always wanted to own a RHD vehicle, and the supra is gunna be that vehicle.
and any vehicle that was not produced over here in the USA is TEN TIMES HARDER to make legal over here, cause they probably DO not live up to the crash standards, why make a car less safe to sell in japan, and then make another one to sell in other countries, like teh supra, it was made in the usa, so it shouldnt need any more reinforcments, like skylines usually do if im not mistaken.

okay, so please unless you have any help to the question do not respond, cause ppl saying its stupid or anything like that, it is not going to change my mind, i just want to know what would actually have to be done to import that vehicle.
It's not going to be STOCK when you start adding crap to it to get it to be legal in the States.
Just get a US one, put a good headgasket on the 7m, and enjoy the extra displacment/torque.
But I'm guessing that you will probably never get past the idea stage with this, anyway. Generally, If you have to ask about these sort of things....

ya this aint gunna happen tomorrow.
if anyone could at least point me in the direction of a good importer in teh north east.
i plan to have the car and to be finished to where i want it by the time im 25 i got four years.
and by stock i mean it doesnt have a swaped motor, it isnt hacked by random people. the motor thats in that car came in that car, the turbos on that motor came on that turbo.

I'm going to put my money on OP never even getting a Supra.
well since like usually you try and research something before you get into it and people think your stupid, and sit there and say o its never gunna happen if your asking the basic questions. so since nobody can really help me, well then if any one of importance (moderators) see this they can delete, and h-t will just have to wait to see the supra.
cause unlike half the world i do thoroughly research something before i do it, hence why i want the supra, i was gunna go big boost power in my civic with a lsvtec. but no matter how much you build it theres still to high of a risk for me personally (and yes i know the tune makes it reliable but nothing can really make anything reliable) at least this is all in hondas.

What it breaks down too is
1) gotta have the right connections and anything is possible
2) be prepared to pay up the *** for a legit legal imported car.
Get a Supra from Canada (duh) tons of rhd's up there and possible to get tagged. *or* convert / build one.
Not very many people (none that I even know of) have fully legal JDM cars on the road, yes tagged titled, but legal in the sense of an accident probably not.
Honda Tech isnt gonna be the place where " o hey this is how I got my illegal jdm car on the road " it is a shady business, gotta know someone who knows someone and you can probably make it happen, I have but I wouldn't write it down either.
FYI RHD MKIII for sale in Portland for 1k no swap, conversion car.

I know of I person right now who is driving around Imported JDM INtegra Type R. i have yet to talk to him, gotta go get my hair cut and have a conversation with him (hes a barber) and one of my friends has imported a couple cars, one for himeself (sold now) and a couple for other ppl, and his saying is you just gotta replace the glass and throw a cat on it. so its just i was wondering if anyone knew of someone who actually did import a RHD supra, and what conversions they had to do.
as for the Canada statement i dont think i would purchase one from there. theres a big possiblility of that car being worse then a car from around here (rust wise) i would assume they use more salt. but thank you.
and when the time comes i get my RHD mk3 supra you will be seing pics of it being unloaded, and thats the rest of this thread haha.

I don't know of a single person who has imported a car start to finish who hasn't lost money.
mkIII supra's are dated, they are old and 80's, if its your thing thats cool, just trying to present options not to waste money but looks like your not one to care.
2-4k for the car, 5k shipping, trying to get it past customs, then getting it across the united states should be fun.... when there are RHD MKIV supra's around 10k w/ a 2jzgte.
Locally there is a RHD SR20 S14 for 3k...
Good luck on the car sense you havent even gotten your LSvtec coupe figured out lol.
Seattle / Bellingham / LA all have major checkpoints for customs and Miami is even worse, its alot harder then just some glass and a cat, dont you think we would all be driving RHD baller cars?

Bwahahahahahaha. Go talk to BMoTuning.
Any engine can handle what you throw at it if it is built properly.
i have the coupe figured out. just gunna go allmotor. and i planned to build it fully with boost minus cams. forged rods, forged low compression pistons block ever so slightly bored to basicly re round the cylinders, and a whole new valvetrain, tuned by a reputable tuner on a s300 or whatever that tuner felt most comfortable with that application. but its just gunna be a basic lsvtec cause i have the block and head and am tired of the b16 as it is. and the reason being getting a supra, is i want it cause i feel that it willl satisfy me longer (with teh power) a civic yes you can build to all hell, but that money put into something like a supra seems better in my opinion, and im really sick of FWD.

No such thing as satisfying longer.
I hate the 1j motors. Absolutly a pain in the *** to find any parts to replace **** or to get parts to make the motor better/faster/reliable/stronger. Everything for them is far more money than that 7m. If you're going to go that route, do a 2j swap. Preferably the NON-VVTI motor. Stronger internals. Ask me how I know. Used to be a proud owner of an MKIII poopra. 91 Turbo Targa that was white on white
I personally loved the 7m, except for them being prone to headgasket failures. But ARP studs and an HKS gasket fixed it right up.
IMO, importing one would not be worth the money. RHD is only cool in a Honda
