rebuilding the D15b2
i know its not advised simply due to cost...but i got a smoking deal on a second engine and going to rebuild it so i can swap it into the sedan before its engine dies.
i already have the rebuild kit, and bought an engine stand along with some tools i'll need that i didnt have. (micrometer, cylinder hone, ring pliers, ect..ect..)
i do have a question about hardware.
i know on VWs the head bolts are not reuseable, are Honda ones the same way?
BTW i'll be using a Haynes manual as my guide...is there a better manual i can use?

chiltons maybe but haynes is just as good in my opioion....chiltons is more detailed but the haynes specs work just fine, and about the head bolts i think it depends on how many times thet've been torqued, i know ive reused head bolts without an issue
Its really not advised to reuse stock headbolts due to stretching and warping. i suggest some arp headbolts because you can reuse them. As far as haynes manual should be suffice for the rebuild if not theres always ht
ive always reused the stock head bolts. held up fine. unless you want to take the safe road and buy new ones, then by all means go ahead. goodluck.
Do yourself a favor and use a Honda head gasket. You can even get tricky and use a slightly thinner one for a little compression bump. Just gotta cross reference the part numbers for thickness, or maybe a kind member in the know can help.

i'll definitely go get a honda head gasket..thanks for the heads up
i bought an aftermarket HG and it blew within 3000 miles. pain in the neck. Honda redesigned their HGs in the 90s because they kept having problems with them. The one I bought from Honda is all metal and quite nice.
As stated, you're not suppose to reuse the headbolts. But if you don't have some high-horse power beast then you should be fine... just torque them an extra couple
There are soooo many different online manuals on the internet, I would just recommend getting one of those instead of Chilton or Haynes (both equal poop). check out www.hondahookup.com (hondahookup) for online manuals.
