At battle of the imports this past weekend, I had to opportunity to race a guy in an EG hatch w/ B18C block, B16A head, B18C5 internals. It was the first round of the Street Performance class eliminations, I was #4 qualifier, Charlie was #1 qualifier.
Well I got him off the line a with a little RT advantage but that was it for me. By 330' he was walking all over me. I ended up running a 14.22 @ 96.7 on that run compared to his 13.17 @ 106.3. My clutch was still hurting from my previous run, in which I did a redline clutch drop and roasted the clutch. I only pulled a 2.10 60' on this run, compared to his 2.05 on DRs. Wouldn't have mattered though, he smoked me hard.

I'm not sure what transmission he has in it. It's his road race car, if I see him online or at the track again I will ask him. He's a member of this board I believe. He said his car weighs about 2100 without him.
Yo, I was there too!! Are you the one who's running Black max with Anthracite Kosei rims? Yeah, the white hatch is freakin fast and loud!! Actually two fast hatch one is the red one and the white hatch your talkin about. Both of them are in the mid to low 13, and the white hatch beat the red one that run mid 13 or something..

A 106 trap speed is more than type r internals. Looks like that hatch is capable of mid to high 12's if he drives it hard on slicks.

Me and a friend rented a MAX to **** around with it went 14.5 stock without shifting the automatic, there fun cars. Only the newer MAX's are fast like that the older ones suck ***.

i agree with evil....a 13.1@106 on drag radials is way too fast for itr internals....that mph is a easy 12.4 on slicks....i ran a 13.1@103mph on slicks and i know i didnt have itr internals

Yeah that was me with the anthracite Koseis. Both of those hatches were fast, the white one was running with his exhaust disconnected thats why it was so loud.
My car is a pretty simple setup, intake, ypipe and slicks. I've still got ALOT of bolt ons to go, UDP, full exhaust, ECU. I have a little weight reduction, spare, jack, passenger seat removed, and a CF hood. My best time on street tires (some crappy 500 treadwear 205-65s which serve as my winter tires) is 14.41 @ 96.5.
Funny thing is, the quickest all motor max was 14.28 for the longest time (since last October actually) and in the last 2 weekends, 4 people have run 14.1 all motor. A 2002 6spd ran 14.12 with just an intake, another 2002 ran 14.175, and a 97 ran 14.184. Strange how in 2 weeks the bar is raised like that.
As for charlie's car, I dunno if thats all he has, but thats what he told me. Maybe he has cams or something else up his sleeve? It was an all motor class and I've raced with him before on a few road courses so I know he is indeed all motor, his car really moves.

wow, I am surprise with just those basic mods that you turned some fast laptimes
even more surprised that there isnt anyone who has a more agresive setup than you that has taken it to the track.
i would imagine that you already knew to lower the psi on your tires? at the strip
nice setup dude
btw, can you get a higher fd for the maxima trannys? I am sure the trannys are setup for cruising and not sport. can you add an lsd for under a grand too?

Yes, there are different final drive ratios available for the manual tranny maxima, and I know 2 guys with 13 second bolt on ITRs running 13s with a different final drive, but im not sure how much the increased ratio would help in my situation. Its been discussed alot on the maxima boards, but none of the avid drag racers have taken the plunge yet and tried it. I don't know if you are familiar with the program CarTest, its a computer acceleration simulation that is very very accurate, and you can change any parameter you like, but tests with the available final drives compared to the stock FD show negligable gains. As it sits right now, im finishing the 1/4 about 150rpm from the redline in 3rd gear. When I had a different size tire (street tires) i was banging off the rev limiter for about the last 60 feet of the 1/4, but at that speed i couldnt get it into 4th quick enough to be effective. So i ordered the large slicks I have right now in order to ensure that I can stay in 3rd gear through the end of the 1/4. My setup will be changing significantly over the winter, with an ECU (raised rev limiter) and possibly the soon-to-be-released cams from JWT, along with some more boltons. So i will need to see how that works out at the track and decide then if a different FD is right for me, and if I want to bother putting more work into a car that already has 137K miles on it.
As for the LSD, Quaife has a unit available, my buddy has it and it IS badass, but its $1300. Not to mention I dont know if I could pull off the installation. I've taken the tranny out of my max and even opened it up, but never taken it apart. I know guys who have, and its not a job for the faint of heart.
Alot of the maxima aftermarket is starting to blossom, now that a version of my engine (with .5L more displacement though) is out in the new 350Z and G35, etc. So cams, springs, retainers, and other such things are going to quickly be proliferating.
As far as more agressive setups, im one of the few retards on this planet that is serious about modifying maximas in an all motor context, so there's not many others out there. There is a guy in Texas with extensive work to his motor, but he's stuck with an automatic tranny, and has run a best of 14.2. That was like 3 years ago though, he's since torn the motor down, went crazy with it (on boost) and sold it. I have no idea who has the car now. When I say extensive work i am speaking relatively of course, he ported his exhaust manifolds and dyno'd them, showed less than 1 hp gain, the stock exhaust manifolds are very very good. There's a few guys who have extrude honed the stock intake manifold, but this new variable unit that I have far exceeds the capabilities of an extrude honed stock manifold, and this new unit has a very very smooth pathway.
I don't believe there is a fully built all motor maxima out there, meaning modified heads, cams, raised compression, increased displacement, ect. All the guys that are serious about making these cars fast go forced induction. Wow this is a long post.
