Default New EP3 owner here

Hello all. Havent taken delivery of my new (to me obviously) 2002 civic SIR yet. at this rate, it will be tuesday or wednesday. Im trading in my 2004 rx8 for this wicked little car and getting quite a chunck of cash back.

im an automotive service technician apprentice (level 3, almost there....) at my local mazda dealer. i'd been driving my rx8 for 2 years when all of a sudden the love was gone, so i couldnt put up with all its drama anymore and this ep3 came in on trade. i couldnt pass it up. wanted one years ago but insurance was too much back then. but its all better now

anyways, the car is a silver 2002. 160 xxxkm on it. pretty decent shape. The only problems i was able to find with it was the DRL system isnt working (light on + left side highbeam doesnt work, yes the bulb is fine) and it looks like the valve cover is starting to sweat a bit. So i'll probably paint the valve cover while i have it off and check the valve clearance (when i get around to it...you know how us mechanic types are. lol)

So yeah, other than that, the car is really clean and very well maintaned. Huge fun packed into this little thing. I was really suprised how fast redline comes up. i hit the limiter in 1 2 and 3 on my first test drive. lol. I have developed a habbit of not looking at the tach at all when i rev cars out because my rx8 would beep when you approached redline. im sure i'll get used to it though. Also, the torque steer is a little annoying...but i guess driving RWD for 2 years has sort of spoiled me in that respect. Again, im sure i'll get used to it. Plus its nothing compared to the torque steer on the mazdaspeed 3s...those suckers will tear the wheel out of your hands when the turbo spools if you arent paying attention.

Im also anxiously awaiting the other side of this winter. I have a bit of track experience with the rx8 and im anxious to see what this civic will behave like at the limit at my favorite track.

Anyways, ive been doing alot of reading on here over the past few days and just wanted to say high and get my first post out of the way. I dont have pics yet as i've been running around alot....plus im sure you have all seen a stock silver ep3 before. lol

The EP3 has electronic power steering, so the steering wheel is a little "sensitive" and very responsive to your inputs. Be aware of this.

turboteg2nv; yeah, im very familiar with sensetive steering...rx8s are incredibly twitchy at first, then you get used to it and everything else seems undrivable. they have electric PS as well. thats why i like this civic so much i think. the steering feel is just perfect. but still, torque steer is annoying. small price to pay for the feel you get i guess.
I drove a 2000 CX hatch for a while with manual steering...like 5 turns lock to lock. lol. i almost over shot the first corner i took in that car....just wasnt expecting to need that much steering input to get around a bend. lane changes too...instead of just tweaking the wheel it felt like you were turning into the next lane over. lol.

as for what im smoking up here...well...wouldnt you like to know. haha.
