Default Calling Tire Guru's for 400whp Traction!

I will be honest, I did search but I'm not very good with tire specs. I currently have 17" Volk LE37s on some 215/45/17 bridgestone g-sports, I don't rub on the fenders, but I rub on the inner wall.

I'm about 2 weeks away from tuning day and am planning on making 400-450whp, and I know for a damn fact those shitty tires aren't gonna hold up.

I'm aware that I'm going to need smaller wheels and that isn't a problem. What specs can I look at to fit the widest tire possible without crazy modification (flaring fenders and such). I want to fit a 225 or 235 if possible, but I'm not sure what offset I need, as I need to clear my 12" rotors and wilwood calipers.... Any help would be great, or even a push to the right direction.

What size can I go with? 15s or 16s and how wide? What offset would I need for it to clear and what size tire?

I'd like SOME treadlife lol, I know I'm sacrificing treadlife with sticky tires, but are there any options with ok treadlife?

This is on a 99 dc2 btw

kumho xs, dunlop star spec, bridgestone re11, yoko advan ad08, azenis rt615 will all be better than g force sport.

By far. And add the Toyo Proxes R1R to the list. These are the stickiest street tires you can buy.

On an Integra, the best size to avoid rubbing is 205/40-17, and I would not go larger than that. The only one of these tires available in that size is the Falken Azenis RT-615K (which has replaced the RT-615).

Don't worry about differences in treadwidth, because they won't make a whole lot of difference. Differences in tires (getting a make/model of tire that's stickier) makes all the difference. You've already proved this to yourself, by finding that the overwide BFG g-Force Sport you're using now doesn't grip worth squat. So get stickier tires, and avoid rubbing by getting them in the same outer diameter as stock tires. That means 205/40-17.

Speaking for Kumho XS, I have them in 205/50/15 on my integra and while I loved them on lower power, @400 wheel you still wont get traction. With decent tread, it will still fight for traction in fourth. Thats the boat I am in, I think the R1R is the best bet.

The R1R isn't going to give significantly better traction than the XS. If the XS isn't enough, you're going to need to get something like slicks or drag radials (and yes, they are expensive and don't last very long).

I'll go with the azenis, I'm also having boost by gear and boost by speed programmed in, that should help a bit. What are some other things I can do for traction? I have koni ground controls, stiffer in the rear (I forgot the exact rates but I have the part numbers so I'll check when i get home). I also have full race traction bars in mind, when the money allows . Anything else that can aid me in my battle for traction?

...Do you not have traction bars already?

Traction bars definitely will help, but they will help more with wheel hop than actual tire traction. Boost by gear and boost by speed are only going to help so much; you want full boost as soon as possible right? You can limit boost based on traction but that will not always be consistent. Many other variables come into play as well such as wet/dry, tire pressure, tire type, etc.

That's really unusual treadlife for an R compound track tire. Most people running them on the street won't get more than about 5K (and even less when using them on the racetrack). And they're designed for cornering rather than acceleration.

If street tires aren't good enough, and this is for street or dragstrip use (rather than a racetrack), get some slicks or drag radials instead.

This is true. Roads around here are pretty good. I don't have 400whp though lol. I was given them from my buddy to put on my car as spares when my wheels got jacked. They hooked up amazingly though. Whether in the corners or in a straight line.

ill probably go with the azenis 205/40/17. I understand the boost by gear and boost by speed will only do so much, but i gotta use everything to my disposal to hook up 400+ hp lol. is there any other methods of controlling traction?

I don't know how good or bad the roads are there but here there not so great. My car made 445whp an 346tq. I used the hondata boost by gear program and saw 25lbs(full boost)in 3 and 4 gear. I used type r LSD with 215/50/16 nitto neo gen, Car only spins a little bit in first and second but doesn't roast the tires or anything

I have a little over 400 and I I don't get traction with full boost in 3/4th most days. Once in a rare while I do, but it is not completely consistent. I run XS in 205/50/15 how comparable are the neo gens to XS? My tires are winding down so it is time for me to start looking again.

If I can hook in third @ full boost consistently with the neo gens then hell yes.

The Kumho Ecsta XS is an extreme performance summer tire. The Nitto Neo Gen is an all season. If traction is the concern, you shouldn't even be considering Neo Gens.

Then I am confused how he is getting traction at full boost on those tires. What trans are you running? Even on an LS trans with lsd i don't see how you can get full traction.

edit: clarity

I run a nitto NT-01 225/50/15 and still dont hook at 350hp, but it also makes 340 ft/lbs

Impressive! suspension? traction bars? transmission? Just crazy tuning for transition into boost? Happen to have a dyno graph?

Sup I do not own a Honda, but I do have a FWD car running a little over 300whp, 2200lb car.

Well never have been able to hook 1st gear! I have manged to get on second gear and up pretty well.

If I have good tires on I never have slipping issues running in 3d.

Yes wider tire helps a lot. I use a 255/40/17 R-comps tires most of the time. I am using Toyo ra1's at the moment with about 10k miles on them.

Am thinking of setting my boost low for 1st gear, to get traction.

It must have to do with gearing then. I have koni/gc (650/450), stock gsr tranny with lsd, and a 57 trim. At 10psi first/second I can spin second if the weather is bad, and @18psi in third I spin 70% of the time. My dyno graph is below.
