re-building cliper?
i just ordered oil seals for my right front brake caliper. i was just told by a family member/turbo six specialist, that its not a good idea to rebuild my caliper by myself. i found a write up and it looks kinda easy to do at my level. but this guy really knows his ****. he has been building race cars and resoring cars for about 20 years now so i do trust him. also i dont want to put my safety or someone elses in danger because i wanted to save a few bucks. also its not about the money i just want to learn how to do things my self.
It's super easy. Take the caliper off, pop the piston out (you may need to use compressed air to shoot it out via the fluid inlet hole. be careful because they can really fly)
Remove the dust boot and the caliper piston seal. If there is any corrosion on the piston or in the bore, use some steel wool to clean it up. I've always used this:
and it wont scratch the surface
Get some brake assembly lube (I guess brake fluid might work as well) and lube up everything. Replace the piston seal, reinstall the piston (it's a VERY tight fit, dont force it or you may **** it in the bore. It needs to go in perfectly straight. go slow) Reinstall the dust boot and you're done!

use compressed air(shot through the brake line hole) to fill the dust boot around the piston while pushing it back into the caliper bore...good little trick.
i tried to get the piston out but it was so seized that it wouldnt even budge. i put air to it for about 3 min strait and it wouldnt move. the car was sitting for about a year before i got it and its been in my garage for the past 4 months being semi restored so when i went to put new pads on i couldnt even get the piston back with 30" channel locks. i ended up going to pepboys and they actually had nissin re-built calipers. i thought pepboys would have some shitty knockoffs cause they are called prostops according to the dumbass behind the counter, but they were nice nissin calipers. and only $26 a piece. i know where im getting my calipers from next time. the honda dealer quoted me $88 for my list price and the core. i paid less for 2 from PB
i just made a deal with my bro to trade me these calipers for his pair of legend calipers and i just ordered an itr mc and booster to go with them. all together its costing me $150 total. thats with the price of the new da calipers im giving him.
