tranny questions
hi guys I have been wondering what is the best cable tranny for acceleration. I have been boosted for 2 years and im just not happy with my ls tranny. I actually feel like its holding me back. i do have the ys1 92-93 cable trans but im looking for a hydro unit to swap the guts out of into my case. my car makes 422/302 if that helps and weighs 2500lbs. keep in mind this is a street/strip car so it cant be reving 5500 @120km.
Either the GSR 3/4 or ITR/B16 3/4 depending on what you trap at. GSR gets you 136mph in 4th, ITR/B16 gets you 127mph. You'll need the matching counter and main shaft gears as well as the 3/4 hub, slider, synchros, synchro springs, and shift fork.
im trappin 123-125 now on the ls. im assuming the 1-2 on the ls is the same as the gsr and b16? would i be better off the source a gsr complete trans and just swap the gear stacks and use a aftermarket diff? the car pulls really good in third and forth im mainly lacking from the initial dig to around 330ft. id really like to see a low 11 next season so all your help or advice will not be wasted!
GSR 1/2 is the same as the LS. Only difference is the GSR has a dual cone synchro for 2nd gear whereas the LS has a single cone. An LSD is definitely a good item to get if for nothing other than reliability. A 3.07 1st and 4.785 FD could help you out. Will pull harder in 1-4 and still allow you to trap where you need to. I have a YS1 case here I can build for you (have complete GSR gear stacks as well) or I can just supply you with the 1st, FD, and LSD if you're interested.
