MPG is low???
Hey guys, i just bought a brand new 2010 Honda Civic LX Coupe (AT) 24 miles out the lot, and i was just wondering why it feels like i dont get enough milage out of my car. when i fill up i reset my trip meter to 0 miles so i can keep track. my first fill up, i got about 300 miles before the gas light came on. I filled it up to full from 2 bars left on the gauge. now im back to 2 bars on the gas gauge but i see my meter and its just about 250 miles. i know its lower when i drive in the city but 250 doesnt sound right at all. or am i just imagining things? one of the honda mechanics ive spoken to suspected that it was because the engine has not been broken-in yet. Any Ideas???
I think with 2 bars and the gas light on you'll have about 2 gallons left. So if your getting 300 miles with 10-11 gallons that is about right, though a few mpgs low of the estimate. As far as the engine not being broken in their is some truth to that how much idk.
i was thinking about getting the SI but i couldnt get it since they couldnt finance my for it. i was also thinking about the 08 accord but didnt have enough money. coming from 2 turbo charged cars getting this 140hp civic was kind of a downgrade. but i do plan on modding it just to have a little bit more speed to it. maybe an ECU upgrade, intake, headers back. the usual bolt ons. what do you think would be a good upgrade???
but as far as the car, 300 did seem fair, with the 2 gallons remaining but now im only on 250 so calculating the remaining lets say 2 gallons. 27 mpg to be in the middle thatll still put me just at 304 miles for the whole tank. and divide that by 13.2 i get only 23 MPG =/ pretty lame.

What kind of driving are you doing? My 09 LX auto has been getting a lifetime average of around 33 mpg, and it now has 37k miles on it. I have had a high of 37mpg, and a low of 27mpg.
I drive an 09 si sedan and I always shoot for at least 300 miles/tank. I can normally get around 330-350 miles/tank and thats combined city/highway driving.
to the OP, there are several variables to the consumption equation. You have to factor in your style of driving, grade of fuel being used, windows up/down, AC on/off, etc. You also may notice your consumtion increase as you pass the break-in period. But keep in mind, your consumption will vary from tank to tank, it will seldom be exactly the same between every fill-up.

I get my fuel mileage the old way by dividing the miles driven into the gallons purchased.
I always fill my tank up to the top, so I can see the gas and I know it's filled the same way every time, on the si I get just over 100 miles before the first mark go's out.
The new 07 lx cp 5 speed I had did 43 in town but I'm a short shifter and rarely get on it.
Yes I am constantly told I should not fill up the neck, but nothing has ever happened and I don't think anything ever will, I have done this on hundreds of cars with no problems yet, so I will continue.

Have to laugh, you have poor mpg because you have bad math skills a.k.a do not know how to calculate your MPG. lol.
Calculating MPG for DuMMiES:
STEP 1: Fill gas tank up to full, fill up gas til it clicks just once.
STEP 2: Reset your A, or B odometer reading to 0.
STEP 3: Drive til you decide you need more gas, or want to calculate MPG.
STEP 4: Fill gas tank up to full, fill up gas til it clicks just once.
STEP 5: Read your odometer reading you reset from STEP 2, and divide by the amount of gas you just got to fill back up.
STEP 6: CALC (# miles from step 5)/(# of gallons)= MPG
LMAO!

Just because it is new doesn't mean it's perfect, you could have an oxy sensor just working on the closed loop running rich constantly.
Might even be something stuck in the air inlet or an inlet that was made wrong staving the car for air.
My brothers accord v6 is getting better mileage then you.

I get 315 miles out of mine with an auto tranny. I also use the ac quite often.
Usually when I calculate it out it is about 25mpg.
I make lots of short cold start trips and 10mile freeway trips.
The best I've gotten on pretty much all freeway was 400 miles. I fill up with 1 or 2 bars left.

These cars warm up very fast when you drive them. It takes forever to warm up while idling. I would just drive with light load for a little bit.
When I leave my place I drive up a pretty good size grade, by the time I hit the top of the hill my heat is up to normal.
I would say it is less then a mile, sitting and idling is a waste of fuel, it was needed in the old carb days but not now.
I was just looking at my gauge today I was at 256 miles and on a half tank, so you must have some serious lead foot or another problem.

My Si mileage increased a lot after about 1500 miles. So dont worry about it yet, there is still hope. Make sure your tire pressure is right and dont put cheap gas in it. Shell and Sunoco is by far the best.

I have a 2010 si with 3400 miles and I get about 250miles with 2 bars left (50/50 city/highway)... I know yours is not an si but it could depend on driving condition and how much city/highway you do. I live in Cali so there are many stop and go, other states may have longer straightaway from light to light which can yield better MPG.... Break in the car more and try to calculate how much city/highway driving you actually do.
I'm still wondering how people yield 34+ MPG on an Si when sticker says 21/29...

that is what I assume but I was checking out 8th civic forum on gas mileage, some users 100% city + VTEC often and still pull 27-28MPG.... I rarely vtec and shift around 3-3.5k and average from 22-24MPG with (50city/50HW)..
