About the same. I would go with the LSvtec though, but built the right way.

In particular for someone who needs to ask I'd suggest the stock engine. So B18C.

yeah i agree lol, i dont have that much skill yet and i wanna do the work on my own.....feels better to build your own car nd pay for it yourself then just buying one of having someone else build it

If you're just starting, it wont hurt to try but don't expect it to be easy. I remember in 02 when my buddy and I did our very first lsvtec. It was nuts, oil squirting everywhere. After we got it figured out the motor actually lasted 3 days! Running on an ebay "MUGEN CHIP" lol. Now with all this info floating aroung HT it's alot easier.

If you're gong to do an LSVTEC I'd suggest rebuilding the bottom end. If not then the b18c will be mighty fine. I've seen alot of stock b18c's run good times with some mild cams and bolt ons.

Everything is the same. The b17 is just a stroked b16 with lower comp pistons. Easier to just go with a B18c. Those b17 motors are old and have high mileage. You'll want to rebuild if you buy one and all that money adds up. JDM b18c's run from 1000-1400 and you'll be way better off starting with that. Especially those motors are low mileage. Most are around 40-50K miles.

Post Re: LS-VTEC or JDM b18c???

yea im in a similar situation, but mine is going into an eg hatch. my prob is i already have an ls block that i can rebuild (i do all work myself cuz growing up around my dad being a mechanic i learned alot). the thing with me is i need axles, half shaft, shift link etc. so i dunno to get a jdm b16a or b18c1 complete swap.

sorry not trying to thread jack...

ok so i dunno about a b18c for that cheap, but im sure you can get em for that price if its just the motor and tranny you need. but if you need everything like me then check out h-motors.com. for 2899.00 and it comes with:

- Motor
- Hydraulic Tranny (S80, Y80)
- ECU (P72)
- Axles with Half Shaft
- Shift Linkage
- Stock Motor Mounts *
- Alternator
- Starter
- Clutch
- Flywheel
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Fuel Rail
- Injectors
- Distributor
- Engine Harness
- Comes With All Sensors Needed
- LSD Tranny (Optional +$350)

this is alot cheaper then if you were to try and piece it togather and you get it all right away, plus they have a great reputation.
well i hope this is some help and i didn't waste all your time...

^ that's what you just did was jacked the thread.

To OP GSR, it is easier for you to start out with a drop in swap. After time and experience it will be simpler to build a LSvtec

yeah its alrite now i just got one more question im sure i wanna do the b18c swap nd i will be getting it from hmotors because ive heard alot of reviews on them but the gsr b18c swap with lsd tranny is $3250 nd the type r b18c swap is $3700 and it comes with the lsd tranny is the extra $450 really worth getting the type r instead of the gsr or should i get the gsr swap and invest the money somewhere else

if you can afford it go with the type-r swap...better tranny better head better crank better better better....you get the idea
type-r swap with bolt on's and tuning will hit 200whp without having to take the motor apart.

b16b is a cool engine but it's truly gutless. it made sense in the car it came from, and that's about it. i wanted one just because they are so neat and always sweated them, but in reality i'm glad i went with a b18c.

hmotors ftw, btw. prices can be on the high side but it is WELL worth it. customer service is second to none and the product will be superb.

if you can afford it pay up and get the type R b18c5, you will be much happier in the long run and it will be cheaper in the long run too. everything about that motor is better and the LSD makes a world of difference. it doesn't seem like it until you drive one back to back with a non lsd car. it is huge.
