Default 1990 Honda Civic Sedan "clunking" noise when moving? help!

Hi,
I own a 1990 Honda Civic and the past few days I've noticed a clunking noise as well as vibration when I let off the gas and coast. It's on the driver's side and sounds rotational. I had meant to tell my brother previously about it, since he's the manager of a Jiffy Lube and I go to him first with my car problems, but I forgot to mention it. Yesterday I took it for a short spin to grab some food and on the way back home the clunking noise became more constant, whether or not I was accelerating it would make a now VERY loud noise. It was so loud that it was embarrassing and I feared I wouldn't make it home. So when I got home my brother and I took it for a test drive, he thought the CV joint at first, but it's not only when it turns so he dismissed that. He also had me slowly drive it while he walked next to it to see if anything was visibly out of place. Today when he gets home we are going to jack it up and see if we can find anything. Is there anything in the suspension that would specifically make this noise in these conditions? I work tomorrow so rapid suggestions are very appreciated!

Thanks!
Shawna

ALSO.. I should mention that we recently did my brakes.. anything there that could have possibly been put back improperly to produce this problem?

could be a number of things. most likely if its making noise all the time left and right and straight, it could be your wheel bearing. have a professional take a look, its a pain in the *** to get to if you have no automotive experience.

you could have a bad ball joint. there are 2 joints that hold the knuckle to the upper and lower control arms. while the car is in the air pull on the wheel and if there is any movement (other then turning the wheel left and right), your ball joints will need replacement.

and no nothing in your springs or shocks would make that kind of a noise. good luck with your issues

It still could be a cv joint. but wheel bearing is more likely.

sounds like an axle to me and I have gone through quite a few. It would knock and clunk like crazy on acceleration but get better without a load on the axle.

yeah check the axels, the easiest way to see if it is would be if the boot is ripped. also check to make sure nothing is obstructing the wheels and if that doesnt work try earing out with the hhood open and try pin pointing where the sound is coming from

Check ball joints for all for susp. and your bushings too.
