Icon6 b18c1 dyno'd - low #'s

95 b18c1 refreshed(head/block)

stock valves
new stems seals
new guides
ctr cams
super-tech vs&r
stock tb/i-manifold(butterfly disabled)

81.50mm (bored/honed)
rs machine type r pistons
oem bearings

dc 4-1 header(2 inch?)
oem ls cat(2 inch?)
custom ITR b-pipe & muffler(2.25 inch?)
ls/gsr single runner intake pipe w/cheap old filter

I think the catalytic converter and exhaust is holding me back since it is different in diameter sizes and it was cut and welded on. But regardless it's not pushing what I expected. I have a type r TB & sk2 pro IM lying around and will re-tune after I bar/ref it.

First three pulls had bad spark(spark plug wires were bad so I took my friends' off his ITR).

What do you guys think? Comments, advice, suggestions are welcome.

Run 4 looks okay considering your restrictive header/exhaust system and an old probably clogged air filter. Can you post pics of your tune basemap?

I don't have pics of the basemap as it was street tuned for a jdm gsr block/b16 head i/h/e/sk2 im & 96/97 type r cams. What do you guys think? Do you think disabling the butterfly is hurting it? Retune after I bar/ref?

If your using a stock gsr manifold, i'd suggest pulling the BFs out all together.. if you wanna keep them, you need to reenable that ****...also what was it tuned on, and yes, your being held back because of a stock oem cat...

a good header and exhaust should put this car in the 170whp range.. which to say.. is right where you should be.

your whole "header/cat/exhaust" setup is hurting you..

that actually looks ok considering your exhaust is ridiculously bad and you are on a stock gsr intake manifold. Basically your entire intake and exhaust system are both garbage so not sure what you expected. You should easily gain 20whp with a well thought out intake and exhaust system with a tune

replace the manifold with skunk and bigger throttle body...get better header (rmf replica of the narrow maybe?) get a proper 2.5" exhaust on it....cold air intake with k&n filter

should pick up a lot of power.

Yes the butterflies are. From 3500 to 5800 you will gain power if you use them.

Everyone’s comments on your exhaust and manifold are partially true.
I ran the GSR manifold with ITR cams to over 180whp, actually 184whp.
I used to run a DC Sports 4-1, stock cat, and a Comptech exhaust, made over 170whp, can't remember the exact amount. Still had the GSR manifold.

All of this tuned on a S300 in a P72 ECU, street tuned and a Dynojet for dyno tuning.

Honestly if I where you I would fix up you exhaust pieces first. A nice Tri-Y header or RMF type and then 2.5" all the way back.

I have a type r tb and sk2 pro im. I was using the stock tb/im to get my car bar referee. Also, I got some new ngk blue wires and ngk 7 heat range plugs. After I pass smog, I will look into re-tuning with a better exhaust set up.

When I changed from the GSR to the Performer X, the first tune I gained 3whp and lost 20wtq. Car had to be retuned to finally gaining 6whp and only lost 10wtq. Just something to think about when you change our your manifold. You will only gain near the peak and lose in the low end.
I will soon be going back to a custom modified GSR manifold to get back my missing 10tq and keep the 6hp.

So you're saying that I should keep the gsr manifold? I don't have money to customize as of right now. That money should be towards my header and exhaust and I'm not sure if I want to switch to a 2.5 inch set up.

Here's what I'm thinking before tuning:

type r tb
sk2 im
3" cai w/vstack
w/current exhaust set up

and/or

should I just cough up the money for a 2.5 exhaust set up?

Hytech/rmf rep. + 2.5 cat. + resonator + piping + muffler = how much is it going to cost?

I'd say just get a good header, a 3" cai with vstack, and then just put an e cutout after the header and save the money you'd spend on a muffler and piping. I think you'll see no gains from the type r tb and the sk2 im will gain you only a bit right at the top end and probably lose mid range. if i had to choose i'd go after the exhaust before the intake though

I still have the 4-1 headers i ran the 14.3s on..........dented...butt still did the trick......if u want em...im close to sac...ill let em go for a good price...theyre collecting dust in garage. Im all stock right now since i had to pass smog.

Id keep the gsr mani for the low end power. Get a small tube tri-y replica header. A 2.5" cat back...hight flow cat is great asweel. hit me up. I knowa shop that will do a 2.5" cat back exhaust for around 140-150$ materials included in sac on riverside and antelope.
