Default Trans OR torque converter? please look.

hey all,

well i know about the trans issues with the car( its an 01 1.7 automatic) and it has been slipping occasionally. well it all out died. car moves into every gear but doesn't move at all.

i have read that its the torque converter that fails usually. And from what I've been reading about my car not moving and just revving, this seams to be the issue.

I was just looking on some input on whether you guys think that i need an entire transmission or just the torque converter?

TIA!

Sounds like a tranny issue, I would check for leaks, if it is the torque converter there will usually be a large amount of leakage, (red liquid) under the car. Check when shifting from neutral to drive and neutral to reverse if it leaks... Tranny rebuild can run upwards of 2000 dollars, so hope its not the whole tranny...

The automatics are well-known for premature failure. If your transmission lasted 100k miles, you're very lucky. I doubt it's the torque converter. It's more likely to be an internal component failure and will require an simple overhaul or possible replacement of the transmission.

Checked the ATF level? Is it low? Can you see any leaks?
Does the "D" indicator flash?
Has the MIL (check engine light) come on? If yes, which codes?

dont just take these guys words for it and take steps to prevent spending major money... check ur tranny fluid first. if its really dark its most likely your tranny and you're going to need to rebuild it. could also be the torque converter internals... could be loose or slipping making your car not move.

If a rebuild can cost to you $2000, might as well get a another one or swap to manual.
