Default 87 accord LXi questions

I have an 87 LXi accord with an A20A5 and an A2 5-speed trans. I cooked 5th on friday and i am trying to find a replacement gear. I have probably 30 CRX and Civic transmissions at work does anyone know if I can pull 5th out of one of the other transmissions so I can get by for the next month till my EF is done. The first thing I did was pull the plug, drain the oil run a magnet through the bottom of the trans and pull the side cover and clean out all of the scrap metal. The other parts in the trans I am not worried about it is being converted to an SCCA ITA car in a few weeks.

Really...?

As far as I know, I believe that tranny had the external 5th, so the other transmission gears wont fit. They may fit the shaft, but I don't think the spacing is right. -Later, BR

yes, he'll be fine. I have a friend that this happened to.. He only filled the transmission to the top of the axle hole and burnt up 5th gear. He didn't even do the magnet thing. Just kept driving it; he had a long high speed commute as well. He sold it a year later and everything except 5th gear still worked. Just seems like a lot of trouble if you have another car waiting in the wings. You'll be fine to deal with this in a month.

I never said he wouldn't. It's just he not asking that question. -Later, BR

I also have an 87 Accord LXI. The engine over heated and just needs head gasket and so on. I came across a deal on a 97 Honda Accord for $100 and the engine and tranny are still good. I know I will have to swap out the wire harness and computer. Is that all that will need to be swapped? I also need to know if the 97 engine and trans will bolt right in. Thanks in advance.
