Springs or coilovers on 93 eg????
Neither are smoother than the other. No spring or coilover is the same as the next.
It's important to pair whichever springs/coilover sleeves you get with a shock that dampens appropriately.
Some popular low end products/combinations are:
KYB gr2 + neuspeed sport/race or H&R sport/race
Tein S. or H. tech. + good shock, Koni red/yellow/orange
Tokico/H&R race
Koni/Ground control
Funtion & form type1
ksport
progress cs-II
and many more.
and I always recommend Progress CS-II, mostly because the customer service, 1 year warranty, and post-purchase support and interchangeability is excellent. (replacement springs for different rates for $90. And replacement shocks at $68/ea) An amazing bargain at $580
If you have more money to throw, Koni/GC is just about unbeatable given the warranty and quality of the product. A vendor here sells them with rates you pick for $800 shipped.

multi adjustable coilovers > springs
you dont want to be able to flop the spring all around the strut when you lift the car up. that just calls for a horrible ride.
I recommend a coilover where you can adjust the spring so there is no travel and adjust the ride height by adjusting the base up and down

A coilover spring and a "spring" spring are the same dang thing. The only difference is coilovers offer adjustability. Springs are not less "bumby" as you put it because it completely depends on your spring rates and the shocks that you match them with. Every setup is different.
That's why we're coming at you. It's a baseless opinion.
Just be careful what you post, there is an epic amount of misinformation being spread across these forums. We're all trying to make communication on this forum easier by being clear and trying to base our discussion in relevant and substantive posts with fact or personal experience.
Edit: You would be less subject to "people coming at you" if your posts weren't so shallow.
For example
"Springs are better
"
That's not very informative.
This is something that is more substantive:
"I think springs are better because they are typically more affordable and there is a wider market on aftermarket springs. On the flip side the height isn't adjustable and they are usually only offered in one spring rate."

Care to explain why you say this?
Op, are you looking for adjustablility? Do you want to slam your car?
From what im seeing around here people typicaly reccomend springs over coilovers for a few reasons. Often coilovers have much higher spring rates and most are linar. While lowering springs will have lower spring rates, and are mostly progressive.
You can get koni/gc and have both. Adjustabilty and progressive rates, but it comes at a price About $800.
The progress coilovers reccomend above are great for the money!
I have ridden in cars with lowering srings, that was bouncy as hell, and i have ridden in car with coilovers that didnt bounch at all....
You need to choose a shock/spring that work well for you.
