Stubborn axles! Won't go in!

Stubborn axles! Won't go in!
I did search, and search, and search some more.
My axles will not go back in after clutch/rear main job. I installed new cir-clips, greased, tried a mallet, even an air hammer in the dimple on the hub end to try and coerce the axles in.
Nothing. They will not go in.
What in the world is going on here? I've never had trouble with something ridiculous like this.
Oh, It's a 93DX btw. Thanks ya'll!
