Default Low readings for compression test

Engine: d16y7

I tried two different testers, one was brand spanking new.
Results: 89 90 93 96 psi. The other tester showed about the same.

Now.. the car is running perfectly fine. It's not running rich nor is it burning oil or coolant. The odo shows 221k. I checked the blow by, since high mileage engines usually have a bit of blow by, but no smoke came out at all. The engine runs really good besides the low compression. Head gasket seems ok and I couldn't spot any leaks around the engine. The only problem I know of is a crack in the exhaust manifold right next to the primary o2 sensor.

I haven't tried a leak down test, but if I can get a hold of the tool to do so I'll def do it. What's could possibly be the culprit though (including internals)?

It's a d16y7. Shouldn't the readings be above 150psi?
I can see how it could be the rings. Man.. that's a lot of work to get to them though.

A couple things that could give low readings. Before testing engine should be brought to operating temp. Throttle should be held wide open while cranking during test. Your numbers are low but they are within the acceptable normal 10% variance. I would guess one of the two or both of the above were not done.

Was not aware you are supposed to WOT during the test. I drove the car around for about 8min before testing to get it to operating temperature though. I'll try doing it while holding down the throttle.

ahh, yes that could explain your readings, redo the test and come back.

I have a y7 also, remember numbers for a this motor will be different from say a b series.

Im at around 210k, runs great other then a low idle. I wouldnt worry about it at all. Keep a eye on it, and keep her full of oil and you should be ok.

Rings are quite a bit of work, but noithing you couldnt do in your garage, other then going to the machine shop for a hone.
