Hello Everybody,

First of all, nice forum you guys got here!
Now to the reason of this post; My 2000 Accord v6 Automatic stalls sometimes. It happens when I go to the grocery store, park the car and try to start it again within 10-20 minutes. The engine will start, and then stall. The rpm needle will not go hgher then 400-500 rpm. It seems like it is running on 5 cylinders. Also the check engine light comes on.
When you hold the gas and keep revving for a couple of minutes the problem goes away and it idles normally again. When you will try to drive away when it does this, it will stall. So holding the accelerator for a couple of minutes is the only way to let it run normal again.
It will only happen with a hot engine.

Sometimes the problem does not occur for a couple of months and then it comes back and happens everyday for a couple or days or so.
When it does this, the car does not smoke or smells of gasoline.

I went to the garage (not Honda dealer) and he red the fault codes with the computer. The mechanic said that the fault codes told him there was a misfire on all cilinders and he did not know what to do about it. He was not very clear in what he did check.
I am gonna bring the car to a garage again soon, but I want to know if there is something I can do first myself. Or does anybody had a similar problem and knows where to look. Or does somebody know in which direction to look? I am afraid the garage won't find the problem again and will just give me another bill.....

i have the same exact problem. i have took it to the dealership many times and they found the problem after the 5th or 6th time. they said it was my egr valve so they replaced it and that wasnt it. then they said it was my exhaust converter and got that changed and still having the problem. finally at the end they told me that my computer isnt fuctioning right and i need to replace that for $2,300 and i didnt get it cause that is wayy too much. i just reset the computer and it worked for about almost a year and then it came back again.

 

Might want to check the IACV. I had similar problems with a 01 4 cyl Accord and 02 RSX. Cleaned the IACV, idle smooth now, and no stalling for over a year now! I'm happy!

 

I've seen PGM-FI main relays cause a symptom similar to this. The car will start, stumble, run erratically, stall or not start at all. Voltage drops inside the main relay cause the fuel pump to run slowly leading to a reduction in fuel pressure, misfires, stumbling, stalling etc.

 

I've had the same problem to. Usually it happens when I try to start the car but I just give it gas until about 4k rpm then it runs fine.

 

I have the identical problem to what you described. I am still "searching" for an answer and will repost here if I find out the cause. (my vehicle: 2000 Honda Accord EX, V6)
