Default 88 civic no start.

I have an 88 civic with a d16y7 that lost spark suddenly yesterday. I had the car at home to fix a hole in the exhaust (temp fix). i had to run the car for 20 minutes. the car started to overheat due to the fans not coming on, so i shut the car off and started looking into finding the coolant temp sensor. I found a few things that were unplugged so i plugged them in. one was a single bullet prong sensor high up on the cylinder head. the other was a single bullet style sensor on the rear of the motor above the oil filter.

went to turn on the car and vehicle will not start. it is getting no spark coming out of the cap. cap is good rotor is good. I was told that it might be the main relay so i replaced that (origonal had a burnt electrical smell) installed the new one no change in symptoms, and now the new one smells burnt. so either i fried the new one or it isnt the problem.

Check engine light does not turn off in koeo, and the obd1 pr4 with the red led does not flash to check codes. Do i need to jumper anything on it for it to flash codes?

any other ideas?
can the coil be tested? if so how

It turns over? Can you hear fuel pump prime? Smell gas in the combustion chamber?

check the Hazard fuse (10 or 15A?) in the engine compartment for the no LED ECU?

The coil can be teste but is very involved.
