Weird intermittent starting issue; main relay, fuel filter replaced
I picked up a 91 SI about a month ago with an intermittent starting issue. Replaced the main relay a few weeks ago, car still cranked but refused to start. Same day I decided to replace the fuel filter and the car has started like a champ ever since. Last night I went to start it up and it cranked, sputtered, ran like **** for a second or 2, then died. After a few more attempts with only cranking and little bit of sputtering the car finally started.
Once the car is running it sounds and feels fine. Doe anyone have any idea what to replace next in hopes of fixing this issue? I was thinking injectors or fuel pump because it sounds like the engine isn't getting enough fuel on startup, but wouldn't either of those cause problems once the car is running too? My other thought was that this new autozone fuel filter might be somehow defective as I've had brand new, but defective parts from them before.
