shelfed h22
Ok so I walked into my local machine shop yesterday and was talking to them about getting some things done to my jdm h22a and he walks me into this room and pointed out he had a h22a4 that a guy brought to him for storage that was built... He says he doesn't know what all is in it but it was built ... I have a jdm h22a in my 92 hatch... I was wondering what all should I look at on this h22a4 to see if it would drop in my eg ? I have heard like sh models wont go in or something about ATTS modeled ones... this engine has no tranny.. Are all the h22a4 obd2 right? How can I tell what cams are in it by just pulling the valve cover? and if I pull the head and the block is sleeved will I be able to tell aftermarket parts? Thanks so much any help is needed .. I will post pics if alot of people wanna help
SH motor will have the oil filter much closer to the t-belt side of the block, base will be more towards the tranny side. You'd probably need to pull the cam gears to find out what kind of cams they are (most will be inscribed, except OEM). If it's sleeved, they'll be aftermarket pistons. You could measure piston travel to determine crank stroke. Pull the oil pan to look at the rod caps to see if they are aftermarket.

Ok well Ill take things slow and just check the head to see what all aftermarket parts it has first... The sh has the oil filter on the back of the block? and ALL the base models have them on the side? So I need the one with it on the side right? that sounds interesting lol.. Can I take all my parts off my jdm h22a like (qsd h2b kit) and put it all right on the h22a4 ? will all my mounts be the same? I have a alt relocation kit can I use that off the h22a kit?

Thats what he said lol
My 2000 SH h22 swap the oil filter is on the back... honestly i have never seen an oil filter on the side... all 4 h23s ive had and this h22 are all on the back and the block shells are practically the same sooo.... not saying your wrong but ive never seen one on the side.

SH is located slightly under and next to the intake manifold, the base is on the back side of the block. the ATTS does not allow the oil filter to be located where the base is as the diff sits right there.
Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean literally on the side of the block but closer to one side. However, after a little more research I realized that statement is also inaccurate so I changed my post accordingly. Read here for more info (it's in the faq's):
