H22 Vtec not engaging
Hi guys,
First of all I searched but could not find an answer to my problem... I'm hoping that one of you guys can help me out or point me in the right direction.
What I have done so far..
First I lowered the vtec engagement to 3500 rpms and confirmed that the vtec solenoid was getting 12 volts.
Next I installed a oil pressure gauge on the head next the distributor to check for oil pressure. The result was no pressure at all during idle or around 3000 rpms. I did not rev past that because to my understanding I should be reading some pressure when not in vtec. The oil pressure in the block itself is ok (oil pressure gauge in car)
The changes done before reassembly that might be useful in troubleshooting this are:
- Kaizenspeed balance shaft elimination
- ACL bearings, Eagle rods, Mahle gold series pistons
- I did also 4 helicoil repairs on a couple of cam caps
Do you by any change know where the oil passages in the head are located, maybe they are clogged?
Any help will be appreciated.

oil passage to the head is the big round hole in the middle of the block that you have to pull the brass fitting (oil restrictor) out of if your using a h23 block . If you have pulled the fitting out or using a h22 block then you have installed your balance shft removal kit pins in the wrong place on the girdle . Do not even crank your car till you fix the problem or you will be buying a head it can not run with out oil odds are its hurt already.
