Rev Limit at 3 grand????
I was driving today and all of a sudden the my car just dies when it gets to 3000 RPM like there is no power at allits throwing a check engine light for #4 crank angle sensor and it wont go past 3 grand at all, so if anyone has had this problem or knows, let me know.

Common problem... Distributor.. The crank angle sensor lies within the distributor. Consisting of 7-8 color coded wires. Check the inside of the distributor, youll probably find some copper wire broken bits. Your sensor has gone bad and youve basically fried your distributor. You can either get your distrib rebuilt, get a new sensor housing, or buy a whole other distributor.
Is it the distributor itself, I changed out mine cuz it had a crack in it, but the rotor still looked fine so I left it in but everyonce in a while the same thing happens to me, and it too is throwing a code for crank angle sensor
Its basically the distributor itself... like I said you CAN get the distributor rebuilt and they can change the sensor. I would get a whole new distributor because the sensor itself is in the distributor housing (the metal part). Youll probably notice that there is a good amount of misfire going on, causing a little hesitation. I wouldnt recommend running like like that for too long... your distributor might fail alltogether and youll be left stranded..

ok someone jinxed me cuz on my way home from work sure enough it did it, but restarting the car didn't help
rj-sihatchy, instead of the housing could it be the wires itself, I played around with them saw that the previous owner of the vehicle had cut into it and wrapped it with electrical tape, stuck the tape back on and propped it on a hinge and all was well
but on another note, recently the car has been suddenly cutting off I'll be at whatever rpm, say 3k it'll just slowly go down I can hear some action when I hit the gas pedal but it still just slowly goes down then completely turns off, while I was messing with the wires coming from the back of the dist. pointing towards the window, I wiggled one of the hoses where I believe the thermostat is near, and the car died down like it does when driving
what exactly did I wiggle?

OK, I might be stupid here and it may have nothing to do with it, but in my 99 GS-R, If I was low on oil, the rev limiter would kick on at 3 grand. The other guys are probably right, but it's a simple thing to check b4 you get a distrubuter. Just an idea.

thanks for the imput

I can't get the bloody white piece thing off, is it the distributor module where the crank angle sensor wires all connect to, I did a little trial and error and ended up wiggling the wires at the end before they enter the module and sure enough the car died down
