when i accel. all that happens is the rpms go wayyy up and it wont shift till i let off the gas and it takes forever to get up to 3rd gear !! also latley its been eating up gas way too fast does anyone have any suggestions ?

Sounds like the transmission is slipping, you might want to adjust the kickdown cable first though, sometime they'll cause some weird issues if they aren't adjusted right.

 

when i press in the gas the rpm will only increase it will not downshift and go
does that sound like a kick down cable problem? if so could you tell me where the kickdown cable is ?

 

it sounds like it is definitely having clutch problems, and there is not an easy fix for that with an auto besides find a cheap replacement!
