Icon2 Broken Engine Please Help!!! (01 civic LX)

Hi guys,
I have a 2001 Civic LX 4DR Auto. I was driving down the Highway n sped up to pass someone up n after as i am about to pass the car n change lanes. I heard a noise n then a puff of smoke n then smoke behind my car. so i pull over n there is oil every where. so i get it towed home n figure out that right behind the ac compressor there a metal chips. oh n there is crazy rattling noise. So i guess i need a new engine. If anyone knows of a place i can get a used engine in good condition and a good price please let me know. i am located in the suburbs right out of Chicago, IL. The reason I am asking for help and advice is, because i am in a bit of a financial situation due to my medical history and which is still with me. If any one can help in any way or offer any advice about my problem, it is really appreciated. I need an engine i can drop in and connect it to my existing alternator and other stuff that i still have with my car. Oh and I do need an ac compressor too.

:Help: :Help: :Help:

Thank you,
Zeshan

d17s are cheaper than dirt so you can find a decent one for a couple hundred bucks.

car-part.com

Find a local junkyard. No shipping.

As far as cost, every place is different. Call around.

your looking at problaly 400 for a low mileage one.

And look at the engine before you buy it for things like new gasket sealant anywhere, or excessive oil leaking everywhere.

You more than likely don't need a complete engine. The head is probably fine. All you need is a block. I picked a block up at a local junkyard for 100 bucks no warranty and they had no info on it. It's been running now for about 5 months and has seen about a month of 8 psi of boost and has given me 0 issues. Just check it over real good and make sure the rods, pistons, and bearings look good before purchasing it. Usually it's a spun bearing that goes on these cars causing rod knock.

i would highly suggest to do it yourself or find a trustworthy mechanic cause there are alot cases everywhere that mechanics swap out the motor quickly and dont care and you get your car with scratches, chips, or dents that wernt their before. plus you dont know if they did everything right then a week later the car turns into an expensive paper weight. sorry for leaving a life story but personal experiences make me not trust a budget mechanic

Depends, sounds like the rod already broke, if the piston was going up when it did it'll just keep right on going up until it smashes into the head, seen it before, wasn't pretty. Besides that by the time you buy a new headasket and headbolts you might as well have just bought a complete engine, especially if you're paying someone else to do the work.

thank you so much for the info guys. i really appreciate it. i am looking t some local places and some that are just a bit far. but the engines with low miles r going for like 500-800$. i know they should b a bit lower than that. some r just a bit over priced. anyone know how much the labor might run me!?!
