Connecting rod cap torque for '05 Civic EX (SE pkg)
This is my 1st post here, so bear with me. My SIL has a 2005 Civic EX w/the SE package. The other day my daughter was driving it and suddenly heard the dreaded "clattering" from deep in the engine, when she was about 1 block from my house. She drove to my place and parked it in the driveway and I immediately went out to listen to try to identify the problem. On the advice of a good mechanic friend, I plan to drop the pan and replace the bearings, assuming, of course, the crank isn't toast.
My question is: what are the torque specs for the rod end caps? Also, could we just replace the bad bearing, or (and I'm leaning toward this) replace all the bearings? The thing is, I co-signed on this car, but it's really my SIL's and he's serving in the Navy and is deployed until, at least, the 1st of the year. I'm a decent wrench turner, but have never worked on these newer, higher performance engines. My experience is pretty old-school, having done alot of work on 60's and 70's vintage American big blocks.
Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
