wheel/rotor problem?
ive got a '98 honda accord. i recently put some rims on it and it started making a noise. at first i thought it was the engine or something or the tire was loose. i went to a tire shop and they said that wasnt the problem. the guy said it could be the rim is too heavy and theres something wrong with the rotor i dont know if thats possible. im pretty sure its only on the front right side. i doesnt seem to be hitting anything. any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
I would go to a tire and rim mech and get a few more hints and ideas what may could be wrong. Rim being too heavy??? possible but im not buying it from that guy. Go to another mech and see what he says.
This.
The weight of your rims will alter your handling characteristics a little, (unsprung weight) but I doubt it would cause the noise you are talking about.
If it's a grinding noise look at your pads. If they install the pads backwards the wear indicators (metal tab that makes the "bad brakes" squealing noise) will snap off, and then if you don't check your pads they can wear down to the backing plate and grind on the rotors. Happened to the rear brakes on my grandfathers chevy.
