Car won't start. Any suggestions?
My battery is fine. I jumped the car and turned the key and it almost starts. What could be the problem??? Without jumping the more i try to start it, it gets weaker. Any ideas??
The second step to diagnosing a no-start in a Civic is to check for sparks at the plugs. Remove a spark plug from the cylinder head and reinsert it into the end of the spark plug wire. Hold the ground electrode against a bare bit of metal in the engine bay (such as a valve cover bolt head) and watch for a fat blue spark while someone else cranks the engine. Be careful not to get zapped, it will hurt. If there are no sparks or the spark is weak and yellow/orange, you have an ignition problem. If spark is weak, check ignition components (distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, plugs) for wear, corrosion, condensation, oil soaking, or damage. If spark is non-existant, check to make sure the distributor rotor is turning when the engine is cranked. If the rotor does not turn, you have a broken timing belt or a broken camshaft. If the rotor does turn, you likely have a faulty ignition coil (very common) or ignitor (somewhat common).
If the engine does have healthy spark, you may have a fueling problem. Check for fuel. If you cannot hear the fuel pump run for two seconds when the key is turned to position II, check for power at the fuel pump connector. Don't just replace the fuel pump straight away, as fuel pumps in these cars rarely fail. If you aren't getting power at the connector, the main relay is likely faulty.
