Default stock intake piping upgrade :)

Most of you will think I'm a geek for looking into this but I'm all about $ per HP.I recently decided to see how much bigger a 94-01 integra's stock intake piping was than a stock 88-91 civic. These were the results.

INTEGRA 2.5/8" at the throttlebody
CIVIC 2.1/2" at the throttlebody

The integra has roughly 5% bigger inlet

INTEGRA 3.1/2" at the filter end
CIVIC 2.7/8" at the filter end

The integra has roughly 18% bigger outlet

So from my findings just by upgrading to a B series intake piping it would allow your motor roughly 15-20% more air flow.Hope this helps someone. The way I think about it is for $10 to Have a little upgrade like this might help a few people out there.Let me know what you guys think of my "findings" Matt

top intake piping is from the 94-01 integra, bottom piping is from a 88-91 civic.

Ya AEM cold air is nice But we get a ton of Rain in British columbia and I don't want to hydrolock my motor lol.I know you can buy a bypass valve for $50 or so but $200-300 for an intake seems a little steep to me

It sounds like it would be nice if you had a d16z6 intake manifold bored to fit an LS throttle body and then throw this on there. Im all for cheap HP gains. good job

Right, and the one from the Integra Type R is even larger. But...have you tried to hook this to the OEM airbox yet? Or were you going to ghetto-fab a universal K&N on the end or something?

The OEM 88-91 airbox doesn't really flow all that well in stock form. I've ran a modified airbox and gotten much better performance, but that's still not as good as an open element filter.

I honestly don't see the point of this post other than telling us that the Integra has larger intake piping diameter (which most of us will probably already know).

i dont think it will fit unless u relocate the batt in our poor ef's but this could be 10xs better with a full intake system.....u can go with a ls/gsr/type (r whatever u want) throttle body and use the intake arm and airbox from a 95 gsr (cone filter type) and baam better flow with oem parts

I used a stock B16A2 intake pipe with the stock air box all OEM
No need to buy a PM6 tube

( I had the tube from a previous swap )

I spent $45 an just bought a whole oem EF8 airbox and intake tube setup, which is definitely beefier than the stock usdm intake setup.

I am not a fan of cai systems

I agree with deetz. I have a jdm b16 intake set up and it's still berried than any aem intake.

I would relocate the battery yes;the point of the thread was to help people out that didn't know.I would also use the dc(94-01) stock air box,Matt

I made an LS stock air box fit. Cut the bottom of it off, and massaged the fender well a bit, looked nice and stock!

just replace the stock intake with some 3" ducting. no ribs to slow the air down. still use the stock airbox with a K&N filter. using the lower part of the air box is optional.

the airbox nipple is 3" already. shape the ducting to the same stock intake pipe. cover with duct tape. hose clamp to TB.

the only issue youll have is needing to make a catch can breather because you lose the vent and vacuum hose from the intake to the valve cover. not a big deal if you were planning on doing that anyway, so its overall a cleaner setup.
