Default Solenoid gasket question

I have a 98 accord 4-cyl. with 199k. I am trying to replace the v-tec solenoid gasket, but the dealer says I have to buy the whole assembly. He says that Honda does not provide a v-tec solenoid gasket for a 1998 accord. They only have the filter screen (goes to head of engine) gasket. What the heck do you do? I need to replace this gasket only, not the whole assembly.

What solenoid are you talking about?

The VTEC spool valve gasket & filter is part number 15825-P0A-015 - $10.00
The rotary air control solenoid gasket is part number 36461-PAA-A01 - $14.00

If you took apart the VTEC solenoid, IIRC, that O-ring also comes with part number 15825-P0A-015

Buy a tube of RTV silicone.

Follow instructions on tube. Use on Vtec solenoid in place of OEM gasket.

Laugh at the dealership for being noobs. RTV fixes everything

I'm looking for the v-tec gasket that sits inside the triangle housing and under the solenoid. It is called "solenoid gasket". I called several dealerships and they don't have/make this gasket for a 1998 accord 4-cyl. lx 4-door sedan. Can you look this up again?

The spool gasket looks very different from the v-tec solenoid gasket. It is not the same part number for sure.

Does this look like your o-ring/gasket.

If so it's part number 36172-P0A-005

Thanks for helping me, but that o-ring is very close but not exact. That part number is for a 95-96 accord not 1998. I have 36172-poa-005 in my hands now and compared it with original part and is slightly different. I tried using it, but a slight leak exists. Help me please!

The 98-02 VTEC solenoid wasn't designed to be taken apart by Honda techs. Therefore there is no listing for any solenoid base gasket for the F23 VTEC. You are correct, the one I posted above is for the 94-97 VTEC solenoid. Looks like RTV may be your friend.

What would you say if I told you a local Honda service dealership installed 36172-poa-005 on my car?

The Honda parts site does not list one for the 4 cylinder. Who knows, maybe this gasket for the 6 cylinder may work, part number 36172-P8A-A01?

I would say that they are using whatever part they can find to try and fix the leak....without having to replace the entire unit.

Ah the V6 one looks a bit different than the 94-97 4 cylinder one.
