Default Abs light before and after brake job?

Bought a 96 prelude that needed brakes bad...turns out I did pads/rotors front and rear and the pass side rear caliper (it was frozen). My ABS light has been on since I purchased the car but everything seems to work fine...any idea why the light is on or how to get it off?

Correction.

Pull the code, do the troubleshooting outlined in the manual, then come back if problem persists.

check your sensors if they need cleaned. One of mine tripped code 51 (motor overrun) but it was cause a sensor was just dangling

Try this. This was outlined in the service manual too. And it got of my ABS light. Pull the ABS fuse which is the second one to last on the far top right. Pull it for at least three seconds.

The only reason i say this is because the brakes were really bad and one of the calipers were frozen, so i assume the car has been sitting a while. What is possible is that your battery maybe possibly lost its charge while sitting, and if that happens it triggers the ABS light for some reason??? IDK why. So if you have disconnected your battery for any reason, or had to jumpstart the car, that would cause your ABS light to turn on. Removing the fuse should reset the light. BTW the light can also get turned on if the car looses traction. Which also can be reset by pulling the fuse. Lemme know!

THANKS!!! You pretty much described exactly what happened to the car! I bought it from a co worker who had let it sit (point #1!) and sitting killed the battery so he replaced it (point #2!). I will pull the fuse for ...5 seconds : )

No such luck : (

I pulled the fuse and waited about five minutes then put it back in and drove around the block...when I start the car it is not on but it comes on right about 5 mph...

Maybe you should follow my advice instead. There's no guessing that way.

Minilogo suggested it as well.

I told him exactly what to do. How is that not helping?

Why is it my fault he had to be told a third time?

Who are you again?

xmod, your method is still guessing in a way since you don't know exactly whats wrong with his car. He needs to pull the code before just trying something that happened to work for 1 person.

Who the hell are you??? Let me guess you're going to post back with something saying "I have over 2,000 post!"

The method I used was what you guys said. Right out of the service manuals. He said the car had been sitting and that ABS works. So in the service manual it gave this answer to that kinda situation...

I'll pull the code as soon as I can...the fuse was a perfectly fine attempt to fix the light in the driveway quick...unfortunately it did not keep the light off but no harm done.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Ya for sure do that. Just read up on it and didnt know you could pull a code from your ABS light. Prolly the reason why my ABS light was blinking when I tried to pull my CEL code. I guess i was guessing at his problem. But when you troubleshoot arent you always guessing? Even if you do follow the service manual its not always correct.

Since you're OBDII, your codes will probably be the same as the 5th Gen Prelude. For the codes themselves and the troubleshooting that entails, use this:

Just posting my experience with the code 51...everyone else said to replace the motor and it ended up being my sensor.

It's not like I surf these forums daily so I'm just posting it up in case it helps. But seeing as how he still hasn't gotten the code, I doubt it will

Light has been on since I bought the car...I put all new brakes on it and it stops fine...didnt know these things explode if you don't get the code for an ABS light.
