Sounds like you're only getting them because you're getting a good deal.
17" have more rotating mass than 15, or 16" wheels. Why would you run them at the track??
16" is a perfect size IMO.

You are correct in everything stated, yet that still does not answer my question...
No way a 17x8 +47 won't rub, unless you put the skinniest tire you can find on it.
You could run the 17x8 with a 10mm spacer in the front and be fine (although you will need to roll the outside fender lip a bit. Then run the 17x7 in the rear.

If you run a 17 inch wheel your side wall will drop down a size, giving you a harder ride, and a larger chance to bend a rim.
You will also be spending more money on 17" tires, then you would with 15 or 16 inch tires.

not to mention the wheel its self is just heavy i had a set of them in 17s with falkin azenis on them not a light combo at all if you plan to autox i would get a another set of wheels as said and just use them for the street.

There aren't very many sticky tires available in 17" sizes that won't rub. Stick to 15" or 16", as others have said.
If you're doing this on street tires, consider these sticky ones:
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 205/50-15 205/45-16
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec 205/50-15 195/55-15
Kumho Ecsta XS 205/50-15 215/45-16
Toyo Proxes R1R 205/50-15 205/45-16
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 205/50-15
Falken Azenis RT-615K 205/50-15 215/45-16 205/40-17
If you have a lot of autocross experience and are competing and looking for every hundredth of a second, you might want to go to an R compound, maybe the Hoosier A6 in 205/50-15, 225/45-15, or 205/45-16. But until you reach that point, it's WAY overkill.
