clutch on and off?
what does that mean..i've read and alot about unsprung 6 puck...and they said the clutch is on and off and i really don't get it..recently i noticed..and times, my car would slip at a high rpm when shifting..at first i thought my clutch was starting to slip, but then realized it didn't..sometimes it'll slip on 3rd sometimes 4th or 2nd..but when i put it in 5th gear, and let off the clutch slowly, it'll move an inch or so then die out....means it's still good right?
people say that a puck clutch is on and off (really only the case with aggressive material compounds on the disk itself) because the friction point you slip the clutch at is much narrower than on a full face, thus instead of it being gradual, its like a switch, on or off, engaged or disengaged. if your running a "stage 1" or "stage 2" clutch then this is not really an issue, moreso with ceramic and other types of hard materials.
as far as a slipping clutch, if you put the car in 4th gear at 3-4k rpm and floor it you should be able to tell if it slips or not. if its happening when shifting it could just be because with puck style clutches they are designed to be shifted very quick.
