Default Car towed...with damage.

I had my car towed early this morning because of lack of a parking permit. I woke up thinking it was stolen. Good news is I got the car back. Bad news is while towing it, they bent the canister slightly on the bottom of my fireball exhaust. That I don't mind so much. The bad part is they slammed it into the cut out portion of the rear bumper so now the canister is right against it. It is not too noticeable and I am well past letting small things such as scrapes and door dings get to me. However, I am worried that the heat will melt or somehow damage the bumper since there is now no space between. Any thoughts?

if its not something you can fix easily, complain about it, its not right that they should damage your car, and you have to put up w/ it

Are the exhaust hangers just bent or what happened exactly? If the hangers are bent, then go to a muffler shop, they may be able to heat them up and bend them back into place.

ahahaha

unfortunately, he's right... get it repaired, and be grateful you got your towed because you illegaly parked, as opposed to geting it stolen.
and if they tow you from anywhere, because you were illegally parked, guess what? the damage that could occur is your fault for having parked the car illegally... sucks, but guess what? don't do that next time!

I realize I got screwed here. There is nothing I can really do.

Anyway...can the heat of the canister melt the rear section?

I was told the car was on a flat bed...whether that's true or not...I don't know.

So it's the towing companies fault it got towed? Sorry, but no. They were doing there job and any damage that occurs during towing is too bad. The only time you can go after them for damage is if they damage the vehicle unreasonable to perform the tow (ie window smashed to drop the parking brake).

At least those are the laws in FL.

Is that a silencer in your exhaust? Mine didn't come with that. Strange.

take that to a muffler shop man, it'll probably melt the plastic. it's making too much contact. sorry for your loss, and yeah it sucks, but please, just be a little more careful where you park. let us know how much it costs to fix it...

The point was that there would be no damage if it wasn't towed, and it was your fault it got towed.. so I don't feel that it's the towing companies fault at all, period. Just my opinion.

You'll definitely want to get that pulled away from there. It'll cook the paint if nothing else.

Jon, yes the canister will melt your bumper. You may be able to take it to a muffler shop and have them bend the hangers.

G'luck

By law the towing company must notify the local police within 30 minutes of hooking the car up.

Again, this is FL law, it might vary in your state.

Thanks for the replies. I will take it to a muffler shop as soon as I have a chance. Anyway, I assumed the car was stolen. But when I called the police, they told me it was towed as soon as I told them it was a 98 integra.
