Tire Safety: What you NEED to KNOW
Before you buy your tires, new or old, watch this video:

Isn't this old news? They're calling tires made in 2002 "6 years old", which would make the news story 2 years old already...
Besides, the FAQ in this forum has a link titled "Tire Rack - General Tire Info" http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...&AID=10398365&
which includes a link on it to "Determining the Age of a Tire" http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=11
Maybe information concerning this should be made easier to find in the FAQ?

Yes it is old news, but old news can also be new news to others. Great facts never hurt anyone, or have they?
I honestly didn't check those links before posting but thanks

The online retailers like Tire Rack have frequent inventory turnover and automated inventory management systems, both of which help avoid old tires being sold. Every once in a great while they will put a tire on special when they find some tires that are 4-6 years old; in such cases they are clearly marked as, for example, "2004 Production".

It's good to know that there is tire shops that will be completely honest with you of what they know about tires drying out, especially since the U.S. doesn't have any laws stating that old tires are not safe.
