MY WORRY IS THAT THE VALVE CLEARANCE WILL BE TOO CLOSE AND MIGHT HIT.. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS SET UP BEFORE OR KNOW THE TECHNICAL FACTS ABOUT THIS.. THE MORE HELP THE BETTER I NEED SO KNOW SOON BECAUSE IM GOING TO BUY THE MOTOR SOON.. ILL REPLY TO ANYMORE QUESTIONS THAT PEOPLE MANY NEED TO COME TO A CONCLUSION ABOUT THE CLEARANCE. im running a b18c1 bottom end with CTR (PCT) pistons and a b16 head....what do you want to know besides the fact this setup will not run on pump gas?

It runs fine on 93octane. Just tune it accordingly. Bigger came help reduce dynamic compression.

so it wont run on 91 octane? ive been told that it would be fine on 91 as a daily driver

my question is will the valves hit the dome of the piston nice the peak of the piston dome is kind of high.. i just want to be able to put on my b16 head and not have problems.. what other complications can i run into?

Valves might kiss the piston depending on the Cams you have in the B16 head best bet is to put the motor together and clay it. Also your setup will net you 12:5 to 13 depending on how much yhe block has been milled a bit much for 91oct on a DD

Well, you're running the PR3 casting, which will actually ALLOW you to run those pistons. Might be a good idea to put it together, clay it, and see where a stock HG puts you. If you need a little clearance, get a thicker HG.

But if I had my choice, I wouldn't run the PCT pistons. They're just too damn heavy!

Its probably just on the edge with 93....but with chevron 91 out here in Cali i couldn't max out timing without it pinging on skunk2 stg2 cams.
now i have the head milled and flat face valves in it....definitely wont run on 91 or 93.

theres a lot of good information here i want to thank everyone for their input it is appreciated so much.. im definitely rethinking the whole gsr with ctr pistons.. i talked to a homie thats in the honda program and he said i should clay it to check clearance for the valves too.. it sounds like a big headache if things are misjudged even by a little bit.

im probably going to just go stock gsr bottom end and throw some cams on..
any other suggestions to make it quicker if i go stock gsr short block and b16 trans with b16 head with dual valve springs and titanium retainers, i have headers and intake too.. what else can i put on besides ctr cams, skunk2 intake mainfold, a chip/tune a p28..
OR BETTER YET HERES A NEW QUESTION.. what ecu should i run and chip for my car its a 97 civic ex obd2a? im running a p72 right now and its worked fine but what other suggestions do you guys have?

i can tell you that a gsr bottom end with pct (ctr) pistons and a b16 head with skunk 2 stg 2 cams has plenty of clearance.

damn you guys are so great at helping me out..

ok so this is the other motor that im interested in now that ctr is outta the question so here i go this is what it is:

its a jdm b18c (gsr i believe not type-r lol if only)the block if freshly built with zero miles. all brand new acl bearings brand new p73 pistons and rings, decked, bored to 81.5mm, fresh hone, and they just finished the build.
the price is around 700

if you could tell me the work i would HAVE TO/MUST do in order it to run smoothly.. same b16 head and tranny as before.. and is it a good deal at 700 i might be about to get it for lower too lmk.. also whats the compression ratio on this one with my b16 head and what is the estimated hp/ tq i would be getting

i have no clearance issue with mines, gsr block CTR pistons 81.5 bore, Ls crank and Rod with a complelely gsr head put down 192whp on 100 octane, it pings when i run on 91 octane.

any fresh build you should check all the bearing clearances and make sure everything is put together right and within specs. unless the person can take you to a reputable shop that put it together and can vouch for it...

i have a built motor for sale wanna buy it for 4000? i have a feeling the vtec is gonna hit like mike tyson yaawz!!!^^^$$$

fak i missed my 555 thread count by 20 posts.

it won't have any valve to piston issues if you letting the right people build right, my set up is for daily drive too and planning running on pump gas but i didn't know it would ping like that for a PCT pistons, i guess the high dome piston makes it ping when you run with a gsr head, well my opinion is to run a b16 head because it has a bigger combustion chamber if you want to run on pump gas, make the same power, intake flows better and the compression will be a little lower than with a gsr head. It'll be like a mini type r but even better

Buy it and get some p30 pistons wich will give you a safer CR range with 91 oct or just run e85 like i will be doing with ctr pistons.

Whats cool is I have two programs setup in my ecu. One for the 100octane and one for 91 octane...the car makes a little less power on the 91 but when I put 100octane in i switch it back

go with the gsr block with pct pistons, just dont mill the head too much and use a 3 layer gasket, it should yeild about a 12:1 CR and you should be able to tune that on 91 octane.
