Default Painting

Do you guys think this would work well to paint a hood?

Or if you have suggestions on something else, I'd appreciate any input. Total noob at painting.

must you do it yourself?
If i wanted to get my hood painted, i'd remove it... leave at a body shop, pick up next day and reinstall it. Would cost about the same.

exactly.

will look better too. as a downflow paint booth is not something that most people have at their houses nor can create easily with just stuff laying around the house haha.

^^ I called a few places and they gave me ridiculous quotes. insane prices. like 500$ to paint the hood and they all said it would look like **** unless I blended the fenders and bumper, which would make the price go up even more...So I quickly got interested in painting it myself...

Could I just clear coat what is on there now? I have pics of the hood in this thread.

thanks for the input peoples.

Post some pics. Is the hood stripped down to bare metal? or have primer on it?

Oh yeah, forgot i didn't have pics in this thread. here ya go..

I think this is what they call a "paint ready surface" I guess it's primered, but would need to be sanded and whatnot before painting. I'm just trying to keep the damn thing from rusting and hopefully have it not look completely terrible.

that stuff usually will not rust, they put plenty of coats on it, depending on the company it came from.

but you can sand it down and shoot some base and clear on it if you wanted to. prolly wont turn out the best, but its all preference.

Thanks man, It's a TKY hood made in Taiwan. It's r-dot certified or whatever if that means anything.

for example of how expensive this gets, I just called maaco and was quoted 275-300 dollars for 2 stage paint job with the paint then clear coat, which is what the original paint is, and 200 dollars to do an enamel paint which will look very different from original. And this is to ONLY paint the top of the hood.
