01 LX 2nd Gear Tranny Problem
I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to transmissions, but within the last 2 months I've been having a problem with my 2nd gear. Whenever I'm turning in 2nd, it'll slip completely out of gear. However the odd part is that its only in a turn. In a straight away I dont have this problem. Its embarrasing because it eithe slips out or it creates a faint grinding sound, of course as this happens I engage the clutch and place it back into 2nd. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I'm not sure if this is a common problem with the transmission. Also I'm wondering about how much this would cost to be fixed.
Its just been really odd. Thought i might take a shot on here and see if anyone would know, before I thought about taking it to a shop and getting it looked at.
Have you tried replacing the transmission fluid? Some times that fixes odd problems. I have never heard of that happening on any manual car before. Hopefully the garage will be able to figure it out. Maybe it's something simple.
The first thing to check when the transmission pops out of gear is the fluid level. Remove the fill plug and stick a finger in there to check the fluid level. It should be full up to the fill hole, to the point of almost spilling back out. If it is not full, drain and refill the fluid. Even if it is full, you might as well drain and refill it anyway since you're already in there.
Use genuine Honda MTF or an equivalent lightweight FWD manual transmission oil such as GM Synchromesh, Pennzoil Synchromesh, Redline MTL, or BG Syncro-Shift.
Do not use standard gear lube such as 75W-80 or 80W-90 - it will ruin the bearings in the transmission.

Thanks for the advice man. Also good to know Im not alone on this. lol
I'll check the level. Kinda odd for it to be low I just had the the Transmission drained and refilled when I had my timing belt changed this spring.
